Hehe. 'T was me who guaranteed your safety.
But then, I've had a hard time killing anyone in this game. Sure, I've killed my share of thieves and criminals, but I've tried to make one of my chars an opportunist criminal, but as soon as my victim would start talking, asking me to stop, I just couldnt do it, both due to IG aswell as OOC reasons. (IG reson would be my char is just too soft and peaceloving, OOC reasons: too much violence and death already and i know how much some ppl invested in their character.I've had my share of massacres and random killing without reason).

As for "those situatios": I've found that death can usually be avoided by being polite when arriving in a new location and by introducing myself. I've seen others been executed shortly after arriving at a certain location or breaking a stupid useless law, like using a firepit or killing an animal. I've done those things too, but I've always been given a warning whereas the others were just killed on the spot. I can even get away with a fair share of criticism, as long as I bring them politely.

So really, no mater what you do, when you introduce yourself and are being polite to the people in charge, they will not see you as criminal #67 to be killed on the spot, but as a "human" being, atleast desseerving a warning.

I'm still ticked off that my sabre/iron shield character in a rather civilized place was taken down and killed when I was away for doing nothing (literally) by a pothead.

One of my characters has made a lifestyle out of that kind of caution. But it has to be noted that sometimes the 'politeness' requirements go to the point of having to sit up and beg...some characters would sooner die.
Also, knowing that self-introduction is required would be very OOC. In fact, it would be interesting to create a society where self-introduction was considered offensive. watch the people who thought they knew diplomacy dropping left and right.

My characters have always given warnings where appropriate, since none of them are total sociopaths.

Why is that? Self introduction ins't required, but generally a polite thing to do, and many times the "right" way. You can't just barge in somewhere, ignore everyone and do your own thing. That's just not the way it goes, both IRL and IG.
Your characters wouldn't need long to discover that being polite in an unknown location full of strangers might be the right thing to do. Simple as that.

That is correct.

My character was Daniel Malarky (judge), yours was Muldy Bread I assume?

IRL it isn't polite to walk around broadcasting your name to everyone nearby.

In cantr, how would you know that everyone you've never met wants to know your name at first encounter? You might derive it from experience, but it is really non-intuitive. Especially since in most places you can "ignore everyone and do your own thing" so long as you first go through the ritual of self-introduction. It's as if people don't realize they can recognize people they don't know by name.

By definition, being polite is going to make people look at you more positively. But being polite isn't (and shouldn't be) the same thing everywhere.

As an OOC custom, self-introduction ranks with anti-slavery. No reason for it whatsoever, but it pops up independantly everywhere.

Ok, this is not about the incident, but universally. IF somebody is inside, how can they complain that people didn't introduce themselves upon arrival? They can't know that, can't they, if they were inside. =P

It's easy. They just have to be stupid. Or forget that they only dominate people, not the universe

To be fair, it isn't that hard to forget that you had been inside. But with so much importance attached to it, you would think certain people would be more careful.

Just to explain, now that the time has passed. There was no sign or law stating that the firepit was off limits. In fact, there were no laws at all. When the woman, who was inside, came out and complained about the firepit being used, I offered to dig another one. She said we could finish that project, but not start another. Right after that my character was shot with a crossbow and slashed by two sabres. Upon being drug inside a locked house, he saw a fairly large pile of dead bodies. So, I doubt if this was an isolated incident. Before he died he did manage to start a few, okay more than a few, to be honest a lot more than a few, projects.

Sniper I will refer you to Pirogs post.

Pirog wrote:I think note bombing, starting unfinishable projects and similar things should be seen as serious rule breaks.

Note bombing is totally unrealistic. Think from the character suspective. "Yeah, I will carry a hell of a lot of useless notes on me, so when they kill me they will have to clean up the room"
Wohooo...what an evil act.

And starting rooms with offensive names, jam up machines with never ending projects or wasting their resources on tool projects is things that feels like exploiting bugs to me.

It you were supposed to destroy machines or resources there would be a button for this.

Very few people play their characters well when they face death.
Being dragged into a room by armed people and facing a probable death isn't something that makes people vendictive...it makes them scared and instead of pissing them off since they can spawn a new character tomorrow they should try their best to play their characters as thinking people who value their lives.

ON the subject of Margeras, the one of them I have met (Kirinn Margera) tried to get us to forget his name OOC and change it. Without RPing a change.

Nope. Don't think so.
