What kind of value judgement are you placing on this type of role-play? What is to be deemed "lame and uninteresting," and how are you to judge who is "influential" or not?

I'm a player who has kidnapped someone off a lonely beach, and it led to one of the most interesting role-play experiences in my year and a half in Cantr. That experience is still feeding the creative endeavors of a group of characters as we speak.

As far as "influential," that value judgement really depends on the individual player and their game, and not a collective whole. Not everyone cares what happens to so-and-so character or large town. I, myself, tend to avoid the better known ones, which tend to come off as so much background noise as I play.

Exactly. Neither your subjective personal experience of the game (nor mine), nor the quality of your RP matters much in determining fairness. Which is also why PD cases are not decided by popuar vote or pressure.

Kyriel, I have mentioned this to you numerous times in private, and will do so clearly here publicly. Again. Characters are not locked without reason. I really am growing weary of you beating this dead horse in an attempt to stir up trouble, as that is what it all appears to be about at this point. As I mentioned to you before, if you wish to beat that horse some more, do so in another thread, doing so here again will get the post moderated. If you have something different to ask, or get clarification on, I will be more than happy to answer.

In regards to the other part of your post, the rule of thumb should be:
If you are able to find a way in game to RP a reason that makes sense for your character to not go/participate, that would be the ideal solution.

For those times where the situation isn't ideal:
If the situation is outside your control (ie. the character was transported there before you knew what was going on for example) and you log in to find the character in the same town, then you should not wake the character and contact PD for guidance.

If you are not yet in the town, you can contact PD and still wake the character, just avoid discussing anything regarding the town your other character is in. The PD will guide you on what to do from there.

I didn't say "reason". I said "warning".

And that was a serious question, by the way. I'm not just trying to stir things up. Do I need to be worried if I have a character sleeping in the hold, or do I need to make vague gestures toward the person steering the ship to avoid the town entirely? And I'm specifically talking about "violent characters", which you have said have special restrictions, whether or not they are conducting anything violent in that town.

And my reply remains the same. Characters and/or players do not get locked without reason. If a player feels they have been so, and no message presented to them, then they should report the issue to the PD Chair and/or GAB.

If a player was to follow the advice presented in my last reply, I don't see why they would have anything to worry about.

Cdls, I am reading this thread and I still have no bloody idea what I should do it I am one of pirates (but not the one in charge) and my team decides to make an attack in a town, where my other char lives. Could you please clarify what exacly should I do in such a case?

The advice I presented previously would also apply:

If the situation you are in isn't clarified by one of the three above, please explain the situation more clearly. If you are worried it would expose who you play, feel free to PM me the details.

If it were me, I'd either have my pirate character fall into and remain in a deep sleep (if you wish to have your character be awake to defend the town) or have your town character decide to go on a resource run or something (if you prefer to play the pirate during the attack). You really can't participate in the situation with both without breaking the CR.

My understanding of this was neither char could be in town at all, due to you as a player having knowledge from the citizen char that could potentially possibly unfairly inform your pirate RP.

prometheus, my question was being in the same location at all, whether they're hiding in the hold or deep in some windowless building. (And not every character is able to hide in a windowless building, either.) It is non-trivial to leave a location short of walking, as not every character has vehicles. Is it necessary to have a character walk out of town?

And I wasn't talking about attacking a town, either, hyrle. Just having been sailed into it on a ship. Pirates don't attack every town they visit.

And I think one thing people may not realize that things are rarely so clear-cut as "pirate" and "not-pirate". Saying "the player knows what type of char they're playing" and "the PD will know" isn't very helpful. Let's say, over here, we have this exhibit. (Examples, not my characters.) Here is the former pirate. Here is a ship thief. Here is the one who once dumped a political rival in the ocean. Here is one who attacked another ship in revenge. Here is a scavenger who killed a sleeper. None of these characters are liable to actually attack any town they wind up in, but all of them have committed some crime, recently or otherwise.

I'm not asking just so that someone can define some nebulous rules so that people might find a loophole. I'm asking because people may not even realize that something could even potentially be a problem.
