Proper Role Playing

General out-of-character discussion among players of Cantr II.

Moderators: Public Relations Department, Players Department

Can people in Cantr roleplay effectively without posting actions or emotions?

I think that roleplaying without actions is a stronger form of RPing because you cannot normally see others' emotions.

I think that they can role play effectively, but it isn't any stronger or weaker than role playing wtih actions.

Ya can't *sdnalksnl* an action like that if you don't have anything that action requires. So no sabre-brandishing if you only have a hunting bow.

humans who dont sleep for days, work on projects in their sleep, can only hit things once a day(which makes fist fights impossible.) and can create a car but not a gun. make a highway but not a high rise building. AND can heal from pizza. go cantr world!

they really are a magical race. the charactures are Cantrians, not earthlings. *shrugs* go figure. we play aliens.

Psycho Pixie.. the slightly off topic.
Here I am. BITE ME. or not, in fact, never mind, dont want some wacko taking me up on the offer. Only non wacko's may apply for bite allowance.. no garentee that you will be granted said allowance, but you can try.

on the topic of *brandishing a sabre menacingly* versus saying I have a sabre....

In a town I was at briefly, there was a charry that made quiet a show of *practicing with the sabre* doing lots of actions like *flips the sabre around in an intricate sword dance* and such....

Never once when we had to attack theives did that charry ever use a sabre to attack. things that make you go... HMMMMMMM....

it would be nice to have actions that you can only do when you have the weapon... Maybe practicing, polishing, and pointing weapons at people, could be incorporated into the weapons area?

think of the indimidation factor of a thief in a town who suddenly sees the actins of 6 different charactures pointing warbows at them... yeehaw.

Methods of showing off:
Attack self with weapon at 0% power
Attack animal
Quickly drop and retrieve weapon

I really hate the people that strikes themselves though...it's poor RPing in my view.

Making it a rule breach to lie about such things would be sufficient I think...

Yes, saying one has a weapon that they don't (or that they don't when they do) is far different from portraying actions with a weapon that they don't have.

One of my chars did actack himself - but not to show off. He'd only just got his new sword, and wasn't very skilled with it - so he dropped it on his foot!

Yeah.

My Brunoi character used to poke himself with a war bow for religious reasons, but he's grown out of it.

There's nothing wrong with that! =)
Yeah I remember the guy who used to hit himself, it was sort of amusing.
Oh, and Pirog, I see hitting yourself easily RPable, like Sho and Rav did with their chars.

Except shooting yourself with a bow is quite impossible. At least last time I checked. I'll check at my archery job over the summer and get back to you on it...if I am able too.

It's probably not possible to shoot oneself at full power with a bow, but I see nothing impossible about shooting oneself at 0% power, which would be something like poking oneself with an arrow.

For your own safety's sake, I suggest you just believe that it is doable in Cantr because Cantrians have the ability to do so. And plus Coding allows for it. :P

ANd yes, to repeat what Sho was saying, its kinda like have an armed crossbow and just poking forward, barely pricking the skin, spilling at the most, a bubble of blood.

Plus, I think in roleplay, roleplay in concept tends to be lenient in imagination, to how I understand it. Its acting.
