I can't tell you how well those links work, but at least that they work.

How do you know? If you don't know how many people are coming to the Cantr website from these voting sites, the number could be zero.

I'm not in the PR-department, so I don't have the complete information. Possibly someone from PR-Dept. can tell more about it. But during the last weeks and months (years?) hardly anyone voted (for knowing this, you don't need to be in the PR-department, you simply need to vote regularly and you will notice if you're one of few or one of many who support a certain game). As a result it was unlikely that we got new players from most of the pages. In my opinion that means that we (or better the PR-department) should watch the numbers from now on during the next few months while many players vote regularly ( ;-) ) before one can seriously tell how well the several links work.

But PD can see the given reference before a player gets accepted and without any doubts we get players from those voting sites.

If I was looking for a new game to play I would probably go to such a voting site and start on the first page to read the descriptions of games on the first ranks. Those who sound interesting to me I would try. After a few hours I would probably decide which one to try seriously. But I doubt that I would manage to read about and/or try more than the first 100.

True yes as I never bother looking past the top 100 or 50 depends on how long the first page is.

We hope to be able to know how the players know the game. We can know it if they tell us when they make their application, as Ronja said, but our efforts are geared to know from those who don't say it.

The plan (already in progress) is to contact with the newcomers players, guide them, care for them; in this way, we will try to get them to stay with us, and at the same time that they tell us how they came to Cantr, knowing, gradually, our weak points to we can solve them.

If I was looking for a new game to play I would probably go to such a voting site and start on the first page to read the descriptions of games on the first ranks.

Yes, me too.

Server statistics should tell you what links bring how many people to the Cantr main page.

I still think some sort of tutorial to explain at least some part of cantr would help. As I don't think many people read your first day in cantr.

I think most people skip tutorials... But with Cantr, they'd be going back to it.
I registered with Cantr over a year ago... I took one look at the interface and ran. It was only a few months back when I happened to stumble upon it again, and thought I'd give it a whirl.
The wiki has its uses, true enough, but it didn't give me any kind of answer to my biggest question, 'what now?'.
I think a simple in-game explaination of each button and screen would be awesome. Perhaps a few veteran tips thrown in.
Sure, if it popped up on my initial registration, I'd skip it, but it wouldn't be long before I go looking for it again.
If it was set out as a replica of the main interface, I'd get to grips with it real easy. Click the objects tab, get a description of the objects page, examples, then veteran tips. Understood, no problem.
It would have saved me weeks of guessing. After nine days of gameplay, I figured out how to start making a tool.

Someone did design a page that had explanations of all the buttons and such. Where this ended up, I have no idea.

I've never seen that before, it's brief, but helpful. Where in the wiki is it linked from? It's certainly not on the main page, unless I'm truly blind. Hehe

That is all very useful information, and just what we've been talking about.

Perhaps specific links can be sent to a players acct when they first sign up, to encourage them to check them out, and make it as easy as possible for them to do so.

The interface guide should have a link directly from the main wiki page. It is better than some of the existing links.
