Oh, he was probably the Commander that I was talking about. :P

Commander Zandy Harrin, the awkward leader of some unit or another.
The military culture was too fun. Organized with a command structure. Did it do anything to make us more effective in combat or anything, having such a strict chain of command? Not at all. In fact, it might have made us less effective in terms of coping with the game mechanics. But it was always really fun to play out. The inter-unit rivalries while we were all on the same side, etc etc. That's what role playing is all about. Pick a role, build an atmosphere around it, and enjoy.

Yep, that's him. My character's commander in fact.
I remember people complaining about how long it took the Karnon Army to move and organize them selves. :P But fun yes.

Also, players need to learn to accept that all wars in cantr do not have to finish in total victory, with one side completely dead. That's part of what keeps people away from wars these days.

War is a tool that, when used in a responsible fashion, can motivate people to log on more frequently, and can create opportunities for RP that cannot exist in its absence. (Until the lunatics lock everyone up and kill them without RP, that is.)

I agree with this wholly.

The problem is, anyone left alive will just go off and rally others to come and kill you. Characters are so bored, they'll jump at any chance for "action," even if it's the word of a strange bloodied newspawn that wanders into town saying wild and unverifiable things about the king two towns over.

If people can learn to not massacre everyone, then other people can learn to look at such claims with a little more scrutiny.

The avenue of diplomacy is always available before or after that point anyways. If you talk to the neighbours beforehand you won't have to worry about them reacting out of boredom. They'd be warmed up instead.

I know some of my characters would, but I think you're both right in a way.

No offense, but your characters are easily identifiable and are known for drama, so are taken with skepticism. Yes, that's totally a CRB, but it happens. Which leads me to another point: It's easier to believe that newspawn when the recipients of the news had a character involved in the "incident," a phenomenon that is increasingly likely as the player base shrinks.

I agree with Doug on all points.

I hate to say it, Mello, but I've seen mostly drama from all of your characters that I know, even though otherwise you play them well. I try not to roleplay any differently because of what I know, however, and I like to think I do a good job of it. But now we are off-topic from the original thread (as if the next paragraph is going to be any more relevant).

The whole had-a-character-who-witnessed-or-something thing, I've done, though my character, if asked, could come up with their own reason why they were involved in it the way they were. I'm not going to provide details here. In a way it was a CRB, because I might not have volunteered my character for it had I not known something about another one of the characters from my other character.

Ugggh once again, Snickie, you have successfully managed to reply to somebody's comments without being relevant to the original topic of the thread.
