And overhearing them is a normal thing.

I think in crowded areas the chances should be even lower. With a lot of people around making noise, how much chance is there you overhear two of them speaking?

Besides that; Just because you are whispering doesn't mean you are 'invisible'. (As in; nobody noticing you are having sex right in front of their noses.)

And I am not sure about putting the poll ingame.
If they do not bother about reading why and how it was implemented, why'd we want their vote?

On the other hand, of course, they are players too. Just without a voice.

I already had someone say to one of my characters that they overheard something they'd said, and it was a good conversation starter.

But it's a good point that most likely the majority of overheard whispers are going to be ignored. I think that's one reason why people shouldn't freak out about it, since a chance is who ever happens to hear it doesn't give a damn unless it's about cheating or planning to drag or hit someone.

Oh and one problem with good old-fashioned wars is that wars kill people. Recently we had a good kidnapping episode that ended with no one getting killed, not even the kidnappers. Now that's good action. But the kind of action that kills people (at least without giving them a chance to rp it well) takes something away from the game rather than contributes to it.

But simply voting something without reading someone elses opinion would make it harder to have a strong opinion.

You form an opinion, and sometimes others help you with it. It is actually very important.

My post, for instance, could both drive you even more against the overhearing, or make you think about it again.

How about if one of them is talking to you then suddenly breaks off to whisper to the other?

Then resumes your conversation?

agreed. so war is out of the question. not surprisingly someone makes a decent point and shuts me up.....oddly enough that's exactly what i wanted.

Yes, but I hate them doing that already. If someone is standing right next to you you should be able to hear them anyways. But this is very hard to implement with the current game mechanics.

Wiro, Seko, Rebma.....and anyone else who is for this. i am mainly against this cause whispering is WHISPERING. sadly, people use the whisper function for other things that are not whispers. but when you WHISPER should someone out in the cotton feilds be able to hear you regardless of what you are saying or perhaps doing? ( and FYI i am guilty of using the whisper function for sex but that isn't why i am against this cause i think just about everyone has done that )

i understand why this is being implemented, but not everyone uses the whisper function for sex in public. it could in theory put people's characters in a difficult position if they are plotting something. is that fair that they are overheard by someone who isn't even near them and they get locked up for plotting against the government? it's hard enough to find people to help you do " evil " things without the chance of being caught like that.

and come on if two people who are not lovers go inside a building to talk about something won't the town get suspicious? if they say it out loud won't others get annoyed if they don't care to hear about their idea to make an iron business? and what if they don't even have a house?

it works both ways. you don't want to hear about their pointless iron business that your not involved with and they don't want you to hear them talking about taking the entire town.

i guess what i am trying to say is stop acting like this is all about making people have sex inside and accept the fact that it can and will have it's drawbacks.

is the whisper the thing that has the percentage of being heard or is it the characters who have a percentage of hearing a whisper around them.. example.. the part of the whisper is heard by all.. or a few characters heard a part of the whisper but some did not and will hear a different part possibly

I can simply answer to this that overhearing someone is something very normal. It is one of the main reasons plots stay plots and do not get to the actual fase of happening.

About the drawbacks;
Every single thing has its drawbacks.

this has more to do with the possibility of a three way private conversation in public and nothing to do with overhearing people.

What's with all the sex? Who says that it was implemented for the sex? No one, right? :S And since when is whispering some sort of super secret no-one-but-the-one-the-whisper-is-intended-for message thing?

I'm staring at the screen, reading all this fight over this function and I've only one word to those who dislike the function and can't afford a house for his chars...

Letters.
