The example of spelling errors was what I myself would produce if I didn't automatically hit backspace every time I feel there was a typo. Some errors I corrected afterwards since they were uncommon errors and wouldn't prove anything. Chatspeak wasn't used, exept for the "ppl" in one point. No one is telling people to be perfect, what I'm telling you is to try your best. For someone who has learned to type properly, finding the letters for chat abbreviations actually takes a longer time.

Cantr is a slow-paced game - so where's the rush? It's not just once or twice when I've seen newspawns writing very short lines, one after another, filling half the screen with ne1 online, wots ur name, lol and things like that. Not that it would be any more readable in a single block because they do not use punctuation. It creates the impression this person is in too much of a rush to wait a day for response, they're not going to last.

Dee once told me Arabc doesn't have capitalization so they indeed can have trouble with it. But you would think that after watching everyone else do it for a day, provided that you understand what lowercase letter a capital letter corresponds to, you should be able to pick up the basic rule of usage. (Which is, capitalize the first letter of a sentence.)

Also I don't think you necessarily have to know all the finesse of punctuation, just as long you balance your writing with putting a period to mark where one would have a pause, and a comma for a smaller pause.

I have much trouble spelling such words as strenght/strength vowel/wovel its/it's pride/bride and earlier witch/which. So nobody is damn perfect.

Oh and if someone studying a language plays Cantr with the help of a translator, misspelled words won't be recognized.

As a spanish native speaker that have never lived among english speakers, I have serious difficulties to understand things like "pwned".

But I don't mind. If I find someone talking in that way, I suppose that s/he (the char) is mentally or physically handicapped, or is stewing coat's poos, and no problem...

Me too. Luckily there are dictionaries: http://www.urbandictionary.com/

How about a language area for netspeak?

I once had a dictionary of chatroom abbreviations loaded on my computer but still I had to ask people what some things mean. It is jargon, people visit the same environment daily, meet the same people, say the same things, so they start to abbreviate. It is considered polite to say "hello, good luck" when starting a game, but when playing several games a day, you just want to get over with the formalities and simply write "hi gl" because everyone understands it. Exept newbies.

Even though I have now learned the most common expressions such as asl, gg, gl, sup, lol and so on, this is just for the English environment. When I go to Finnish games and chatrooms, I run into tons of language I cannot understand. Or could not. I have learned that t/p means tyttö vai poika - a boy or a girl? Also on my class irc channel they sometimes tend to laugh at me using expressions like lol, even though they understand the meaning. I remember a chatroom rpg using *naur* as an equivalent for lol but I don't remember what is used on the class channel. Also there is a Greek boy on my class and they tend to snicker at him for not using the verb "dissata" ("to dislike") correctly. Then again, they snicker at him for many reasons.

Sorry, Seko, got confused by the unladylike tone of your signature

Yeah, it was simply to make others feel as miserable as I do. I'll change it to something else once I stop feeling miserable. The previous one was more feminine.

The guy sounds like he has an interesting way of turning boring things into funny things... If he accidently got addicted to cantr, he'd have some interesting characters.

Sorry for sticking to a forum's topic.
