I'm sure your character has many positive points, and I'm sure it leads to interesting interactions for you, but that doesn't make her behavior seem less nonsensical or annoying to me. I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this. :) Again, I understand where you're coming from, and you're perfectly entitled to like that kind of thing. I just...don't.

Child characters are retarded, that's my take. And people who sleep with child characters are skeezy rapists forcing themselves on someone incapable of consent. You pity and care for mentally disabled people, though, and punish those that take advantage of them.

Right. There's nothing wrong with playing a mentally handicapped character if you want to do a thoughtful exploration of disability, but I think it's tacky to do it to be cute while ignoring all of the downsides. It's like those blind characters who are somehow never even slightly disadvantaged for being blind.

I also honestly don't understand the "not mentally disabled" argument, because if you're incapable of normal intellectual functioning, you're by definition handicapped.

It's funny how people are insanely protective of these characters until someone starts openly molesting them, then as long as the disabled person who's incapable of giving consent is okay with it (and of course they almost always are because that's what their player's been looking for...) everyone just hems and haws and goes 'well who are we to interfere'.

Even better when it's a 'mommy' or 'daddy' screwing their mentally challenged 'daughter'.

...can't get to my barfing emote right now but just imagine it going here.

It puzzles me that there are so many more posts in this thread than in the "Things that Thrill or Amuse you about Cantr" thread. Do we like this game at all?

Sadly, it comes up fairly regularly. Strangely, a lot of people feel the same way, to protect not take advantage of the mentally diminished or disabled. But there's always one, always one, who insists that it's legit. And maybe, in some ways it is. But it gets everyone's hackles up.

I've known people, who's full time jobs has been juggling, interpreting and finding best solutions to dealing with their patients physical and emotional needs. And they do stuff up occasionally, with years of learning and experience. Having some yahoo decide that with all of their minute experience, means they have a valid viewpoint? Just gonna say nah. In big bloody letters. And when I see it ingame, I will purge it, none of my characters will stand for it.

This thread has started much earlier.

But the main reason this thread is so much longer than the Amused-thread is because we, humans, just like to rant.

Being puzzled is not a bad thing, and being annoyed is rarely a big deal, though unsurprisingly, people are more inclined to post about both than they are about positive things. The urge the grumble or vent a little is an easy one to give into, while something really has to surprise or delight me to make me post in the other.

And on the internet people take it personally when people complain about something that for whatever reason it hits close to home, so debates happen, vs the other thread's 'I enjoy this thing' 'Yeah me too' 'Okay'

Also, this thread is two years old, while the other is only five months.

I've stopped myself from posting in that thread a few times. If I didn't, I would post there like once or twice a day and annoy most people. Oh, the joys of being a newbie. Every day I find something I love about the game. I've been super busy over the last few days, but I have just spent my first full in-game month playing and I wanted to rave about it. So far, I've been limited to twitter and random posts on reddit.

It's human nature. People always feel more strongly about something they dislike while "that was great service, I should send their boss a compliment" is more easily forgotten.

What's puzzling me most recently is why players wish for more variety of towns and different cultures, ideas, beliefs, etc, yet so many chars squash any hint of mystery or what could be a bud of superstition that could lead to that variety.

The very fact that characters even have ages puzzles me. :D I get that chars that spawn are supposed to be adults, but spawning at "20 years old" seems a little nonsensical if nothing is expected to have happened before. And aging has no real effect upon a character. And yet, everyone at first only sees an age and nothing else, when that's probably the least important part of their character and they may be physically indistinguishable from someone in another age group.

I imagine it's set at 20 years old because that's well above the age of consent in (I think) every nation - therefore Cantr can't get in trouble for distributing child porn or something if people DO want to play children characters who happen to get laid by older characters.

It may just be getting the point across that they're (supposed to be) an adult, and I guess you have to start somewhere. It actually is appreciated being able to see roughly how long someone's been playing, and we wouldn't have our lovely age discrimination culture otherwise, which I'll always argue actually is one of the more interesting bits of true Cantrian society.

And before descriptions it was literally the only distinguishing feature characters had, other than their magic names that allow them to be glimpsed just once and then recognized without question several decades later.

Sick and tired of certain characters being prone to the same scenarios...escaping said thing, and then just winding up tangled in it again.
