Re: The Dead Character Thread
I was supposed to write here yesterday but I was too busy coding.
Blake Donovan died 5 days ago. I have the feeling not many people knew him. He didn't travel much. He invented the seasonal color analysis. He never finished his book. Even though he knew his time was limited, he didn't realize he was dying when he did, and he quickly fell unconscious so he wouldn't feel a thing. The cause of death was a heat stroke. He had gotten a bit forgetful with age, so he was still wearing thick winter clothes even though it was well into the summer. That day was particularly sunny, and combined with an emotional disturbance, his body couldn't take it. His condition deteriorated quickly. If someone had realized his internal temperature was too high, maybe he could've been saved. But Cantr characters don't have access to WebMD. I'm sorry that he died because I really liked the town and all the people there. It's a special place. It wasn't his time to go yet, but it would've been cheating myself if I had allowed him to bounce back.
When he was a newspawn, he lived in Plaekur Forest West, around the time when Haz Matz-Hoot was in charge. I doubt many people remember that far back. It was about 80 Cantr years ago. Another important person in Blake's life was Enigma. He was spawned completely oblivious as to how sex works, and he had a very awkward first time with her. Their whole relationship was awkward. Enigma was originally fat, but Blake loved her anyway. She started working out and got really fit. Then she told him their thing wasn't working. She started seeing another guy called Kenny. She went away and Blake didn't see her for many years. Blake went traveling and accidentally bumped into Enigma again in Pok. At first it was a happy reunion, but they couldn't go back to dating, it just didn't work out. Enigma wanted to die, so Blake said he would rather help her commit suicide than watch her suffer. They went in a building and he shot her with a bow. The first time his hands were shaking so bad that he missed. She laughed at his face for being so clumsy. Finally he managed to finish her off (she was also hurting herself, so it didn't take long). Blake skipped town and the body wasn't discovered until much later. People couldn't figure out what had happened, so it remained a mystery. On the way back home, Blake met Needa in Djorf Hills. He started helping her out with projects since he wanted to take his mind off of sad things. They developed a special bond. He wanted her to travel with him, but she was taking care of Bruce McInnis, who had the sleeping sickness, so she couldn't leave. Blake said he would go back home, build a pickup truck, then come back. That ended up taking so long that when he came back, Needa was in process of leaving. Had he arrived a day later, there's a chance he would've missed her. Bruce had just died and Needa and her friend were taking his ship out to find a new place to settle. They decided to travel around the coast, Blake in his small pickup and Needa on her ship. They visited Akypor and Klojt mainly but couldn't find a place they would like. Finally they found LFE and liked it enough to settle. Later Needa's friend died. Blake and Needa had a slow-developing relationship that started out platonic, because she was very conservative when it comes to sex. I think they only did it once or twice. Later she got the sleeping sickness and he couldn't handle it. He decided to go get silver and do it on foot because he wanted time to clear his head. In the first forest he got attacked by a bear, but he kept going. He got to the silver forest and got attacked by a wolf. That left him crippled, but he managed to drag himself into a building using his hands, because he realized he wanted to live, and had to fight to accomplish that. There was a man called Caleb living in the forest and he found Blake, let him use a radio or sent a message on his behalf, I don't remember which. Pim came to pick up Blake with a motorcycle. One of Blake's legs was deeply gored, so his moving was very limited. Later as he was sitting outside, a bear mauled his healthy leg, so now both of them were crippled. Needa died while Blake was too injured to look after her, she died of starvation. Blake called on the radio looking for a nurse and found Karly. Later he heard of a doctor in Xendra, so they traveled over the sea to get there, even though Karly gets seasick. On the way there, Blake confessed to Karly that he was in love with her. Uldric performed surgery on Blake's legs. After the first surgery, Blake was so out of it that he couldn't remember anything. The first thing he remembered was that he loves Karly, but he couldn't remember that he had already told her earlier, so he said it as if it was the first time again. Later his memory came back fully. He had a total of two surgeries, after which he had to stay off his feet for a year. Karly took him home and he spent time in bed. She would change his bandages. Blake continued to walk with a crutch out of habit, even though his legs were fixed. Later he got really interested in colors and developed a system of which colors suit different people the best. He would offer free analysis but not many people took up the offer. I hope someone follows in his footsteps and he left enough written material in order to let someone learn the system. The last thing he did was a round to advertise the Car Show. I don't know what came of that.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
Woah, what? You were Blake Donovan? I would not have guessed that in a million years. That was quite sad.
Blake's death was really interesting. After I couldn't figure it out, I suspected it was the player quitting over some OOC reason (Blake was emoting talking to invisible people / voices, thought this was a hint that they were having OOC troubles)
For some reason, when you wrote about Enigma, it struck a memory with me, then you mentioned killing with a crossbow and I had to pull up some oooold turn reports from the 1000's.
Unfortunately, different Enigma. This one insulted Stone Knights and was killed for it.

Your character Valus Enigma died while travelling. The last events for
this character were:
1387-0: <CANTR REPLACE NAME=char_a_man_in_his_twenties> skillfully
kills you using a crossbow.

Yeah, this was Enigma Holmes as I recall.
I'm glad to know I can still be subtle with my playing style to fool some people.

Cora and Jonas both had the color seasons done by Blake. I thought that was a creative aspect to compliment tailors/tailoring.

I remember Cora had the hardest time believing that she shouldn't wear black at all.

Yeah. I viewed her as 16 or 17 or something teen most of the time. She tried convincing Blake that it was okay to wear black because black was "cool." He handled it diplomatically and made me chuckle OOCly

Enigma Holmes was mine. The interaction between the two was hilariously awkward, albeit frustrating, and what I loved about it the best. Unfortunately, it was terrible timing for me to have more characters than I could handle, and so she was one of the casualties, being one of the youngest. Her death was the best char death that I've had, so thank you, Seko. Maybe they can have a second go at stuff wherever they are. :p

Re: The Dead Character Thread
This is the only note of Zara Gaspillage from Doryiskom that I managed to keep. It's from a fabulous player and his charrie, Little John.
Little John says to you: "Zara, you are one-of-a-kind, in the very best sense. You are kind, witty supportive, gentle, loyal, fierce, quirky, and, -- though I'll deny it if you ever repeat it -- smarter than me. Those who love you are never bored, and those you love are blessed. And they know it. In every way, phobias and sleeping disorders included, you are a good person and a great friend. They broke the mould when you spawned, and then they took the pieces and ground them into dust, and scattered it to the four corner of Cantr. And the whole world was made brighter thereby. More than anything I wish that you could find peace in your heart, because it seems elusive for you. You deserve it. And you should claim it, because it is rightfully yours. Be concerned for Stacey, but know that you do well by her. Miss Seth, but know that he's an idiot for leaving you behind. Give me a black mark, and know that the more I get, the happier we both are about it. Find your neighbors frustrating, but know they would be poorer without you in their lives. In essence, the world will bring its share of troubles, but you are more than equipped to handle them and then some.. Be at peace with that, and with yourself."

Re: The Dead Character Thread
My character loved in Dory and was her friend for forty years or so. Gabrielle Mason back at the turn of the 2000's. She looked up to Zara.
