Huh. Had some chars die for stupid reasons, but never (personally) encountered the All Kissing All Hugging All Lynching mobs....

And I'm kind of glad!

It seems like anger in this game is an OOC emotion more often than not. I don't particularly understand either side of the battle.

I've been playing an ingame year now! Go me!

I have a few annoyances so far. RP that all done in whispers. This threw me off at first, but the I overheard one. I thought initially, they were just people talking quietly to one another, but the whisper that I over heard was a full blown pose and speech.

Of course normally actions are "said" buy using *s, though. Coming from a MUSH/MUD background that really throws me off since there I would type "emote" or "pose" then type my actions, using "s if I needed to say something. Then I'll use the command "say"for actually saying things.

Sorry, started rambling about something that possibly reads as nonsense to everyone but me. Anyway, I think it was like 3 people awake and my screen was nothing by whispers back and forth between them and my character just standing there like..."Ok...I'm gonna just do something else over here..." Honestly, I think the only reason I'm so bent out of shape about this is because, I'm so darn nosy.

You can set up a filter so that other people's whispers won't light up your character. It was really annoying back when you couldn't.

Yes. I wish everyone would dampen that in the spirit of roleplay but I guess that's too much to ask.

Whispers sometimes annoy me because I've overheard whispers that are perfectly mundane things that could be said out loud and give people a chance to chip in and make friends. A lot of the time though I just try to respect that these two characters have developed a friendship for many ingame years and I shouldn't just expect to be part of everything they're saying.

MUSH/MUDs often define who can see your actions, whereas on Cantr if you tapdance in a building with a window, everyone outside can "see" your feet. So I usually go by that rule, if a person has specified they are walking far into a field then I don't feel bad about whispering an action to the only other active person around.

As far as the kissy-smoochie goes, if couples act like couples that's sometimes OOC annoying but IC should be acceptable. Sometimes people peck each other on the lips in public or look at each other lovingly, sometimes the person they talk most to is their partner, that's acceptable. Sometimes though a couple will just be involved with each other and any other active people around will be left on their own. That's not so good.

And I'd like to add another one. Dragons. You know who they are because they usually wear jewels and high heeled boots and hold a lot of keys. They wake maybe once a year or less to remind everyone they're in charge and they have the keys. You in your wool tunic live off raw potatoes and you gather resources forever because they just don't trust anyone enough to give them any sort of responsibility, regardless of the time you've spent there making effort trying to roleplay. If you somehow have a crowbar and try to unlock something, they wake up a few days/years later and breathe fire at you. Living in these towns is virtually impossible and one day I shall spawn someone who will slay you all, dragons.

Also: convincing someone to do something, be it trade, invitation or otherwise, are very OOC decisions. It feels like the player needs to be convinced, not the character.

I have all the filters turned on for all my characters, so they shouldn't light up for any reason. But they still light up whenever someone pets an animal or when a character spawns. :P

How hard can it be to use capital letters and punctuation? They are found in every cellphone and keyboard and at least my cellphone automatically capitalizes the first letter of a sentence. The lack of these things makes a character seem like an idiot, especially if you combine it with typos.

People who spawn with scars. I can understand spawning with a deformity, but scars? Especially the over the top anime ones - scars running jagged over their eyes, massive claw gashes across their chest, etc. It's like a lame excuse to try and make your character more "badass" without having actually done anything to earn that yet.

Ask them where the scars came from and then report back to us.

I've seen people act like tiny scratches are life threatening injuries, and RP having scars they never bothered including in their descriptions, but scared newspawns are a whole new phenomenon for me. What do that do to those poor nubs on the tutorial island?

From past memory, asking about those things usually gets a "*shrug* I don't know.... Something must have happened to me before I spawned..." or "I must have been a great warrior in a past life." and then some short-lived brooding on their part.

I don't think people realize just how unattractive and ugly scars actually are, though. Most scars aren't surgical scars made into neat, thin lines. They aren't badass, slightly discoloured versions of the character's naturally bronzed, amazing skin. They are puckered, unshapely flesh craters that are easily reinfected and seep pus.

Yeah, and if for whatever reason you really want scars, just go out and play with vicious wildlife for a while and let nature take its course.
