Most places pay by the... oh that's too bad you got bored and died. Guess I'll just put that wooden cart up for sale again at 500 days of work.

Lmao, hilarious.I literally snorted reading that.

Most of my character say, "When you finish this, this is yours."
So if they get help, its great, if they are good at it that helps too.

I once had a character who was offering to keep track of his working hours and not charge for sleeping hours, but the employer was like "no, we pay by days". And my character was thinking "sure, if you want to pay extra then it's your loss".

Yes you have, it's called the day of work.

Yes you have, it's called the day of work."Keep track of how many days you work on these repairs...oh what's that, you're terrible at it, so it takes you twice as long as everyone else? Here's double pay, congrats! That expert-level chump sitting next to you only wishes he could work that slow."
I have never stayed under these conditions long enough to realize it was an actual thing.

It's actually the employer who loses in that situation. They get less accomplished but have to pay more if an awkward worker is on it. Even if an expert finished the job early, it's still better to pay them for 1 day of work than have to pay an awkward worker 2 days for the same job.
I had a char at [cut] who would only work on things they were expert at in order to gain a few hours of "bonus" pay since it was based on the project length, not actual time spent. Anyone working on something they're less than efficient at in [cut] is losing pay every hour they work beyond the project length. At least, that's how it operated back when my char was there.

Yeah, it doesn't really effect my character as a worker that much as long as there's no danger of running out of things to work on, but it's just such a dumb system either way. As an employer, why would you pay someone for ten days of work when you could pay someone more skilled only six to do the exact same job, and almost twice as fast?
Though my chars will usually gravitate towards jobs they're good at even when there's no benefit to them...I usually interpret higher skill levels as not only being a natural at something but also enjoying it on some level. I try not to ever have them working on something they're less than efficient at unless there's absolutely no one else to do it, or unless they've made a conscious decision to practice and improve that particular skill.

It's true that if someone works less than efficiently in [cut], they'll be losing money, so they should demand projects that match their expertize, but if it takes a long time to arrange such work, it pays off to do at least something while waiting, instead of doing nothing which gets you nothing.

Is this a new policy? Because I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time a town has been discussed on the forum, let alone this town in particular. It's not exactly a 4 day issue as far as I can see...it's a little like not being able to mention the fact that there are islands called Treefeather or Cantr.

Amusing. As if anyone here is not aware of what highly organized mercantile town is being discussed. But hey, rules are rules, even if the 'any other specific in game information' part doesn't usually come up.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
Well then let's just say that all my characters who have been to this mysterious, unnamed town approve of the system, as well as other things about it, and find it harder to put up with less organised ones in other towns afterward.
If any of those chars ever wind up in charge at their homes they'll likely try to emulate it. I'm actually surprised more places don't...setting up a few projects and editing a note seems a lot less hassle to me than constantly keeping track of who's working on what and for how many hours. An eight hour repair job always gets a day's pay, without you having to worry about if it really took that person six hours, or twelve. Being smart and doing things they're good at is the worker's responsibility.
Funnily it's the coin system I see other towns trying to copy more often than not, when half the reason that even works in Mysterious Unnamed Town in the first place is because it's backed by such a reliable work and payment system.
