Re: The Dead Character Thread
When you say "just killed off", if you literally mean this just happened, then you're breaking the 4 day rule, and you shouldn't have posted this. I'd suggest editing your post, if so.

Yeah, I realized I'd violated the 4DR just as soon as I left my computer. Now I am back on and all wrongs are righted.

I would be interested in reading your post after the four days, however.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
Sherri Dahlia - Spawned in Basil Brush on Haven. Left at age 25 after a particularly bad argument with three of the senior town citizens. She left to establish a new town. Several other young characters, mostly from Basil Brush, joined her and - within 3 years, they built a workshop and enough machines and tools to make steel weapons. However, the new town was not to remain a paradise for long. A series of drama and bad things erupted, and Sherri eventually left town as it all came to a head. She lost everything she ever worked for when the one person she thought still cared about her took her boat and turned it over to the town who had thrown her out. She ended up being dragged onto a locked longboat by her ex-boyfriend. She sailed off in said longboat because she was afraid of being killed. She went back to Basil Brush, where the people there agreed to break her off the prison boat and protect her, but they also refused to let her stay locked in a building. So - after many failed attempts to break into the locked boat, she decided she could not bear life anymore, so she simply took the boat (on which she was still locked) and sailed it off in the middle of nowhere. All the while, she was mutilating herself with the one and only possession she kept: A pickaxe. She eventually managed to inflict a fatal wound, freeing herself from her cage.

Damn... I saw that blow up in Basil. Let me tell you, the fallout between there and Bounty isn't going to be pretty...

Of course, that's just from Sherri's POV...from that of others it was a case of Sherri lost her freakin' mind

No, Basil actually believed her. Bounty... not so much.

I debated about writing in this thread because I do know Sherri a was controversial character, but in the end, since she died alone, I wanted to post something so that those who played with her knew of her demise. I had another character idea I wanted to explore, and of all my 15 characters, hers was the only one whose life story felt like suicide was a good IC option.
But in the end, I do something and find something to make all of my characters enjoyable, or I at least have them go out with a bang if I'm done with their story. I'm not one to go out in a whimper. If that rocks the boat a little and introduces some *gasp* controversy into Cantr, oh well.

For the record, I loved Sherri, even if my own character did not

My new character saw the end of Sherri and my old saw the start of her. Nola never particularly like Sherri but she was interesting to argue with.

Re: The Dead Character Thread
Sorry to hear about Sherri, my char liked her. They met on a few occasions, and until yesterday was the last person she spoke to. I don't imagine she'll learn of the death any time soon, as she's one of a few on the island who doesn't live in either of the two major towns.
My first dead character since I re-subbed: Vesper Wright. I played him much more actively in his early days. Eventually, RL caught up with me and he was sleepy for a long time. Once I became more active again, I was confused as to what was going on in Midgar and was too lazy to bring myself up to speed, and had him travel away for a fresh start. He survived for about 6 years before dying while traveling. (I still don't know what killed him. I got the notification saying that he died on the road, but wasn't close to starvation yet....perhaps he was attacked? He was pretty badly beat-up by bears. If only he had the materials to make that apothecary table he would have lived. I don't seem to have the email detailing his cause of death.)
On the bright side, Vesper's travels gave me my first look an inland-Fu. I've never even seen a map showing the interior. I do hope to have another character explore Fu, it was interesting - and reminiscent of when Cantr didn't have so many buildings and vehicles.

What happens when someone dies at sea? Does the body remain on the boat, just aimlessly floating around in the middle of the sea?

It does. I have a ghost-ship hunter out there

What a sad way to go...
I hope Sherri left a note or two that reveals her identity, so if the boat is found one day, news might get back to Haven about her death. Feels like her story will be unfinished until then...
