People explaining to me that there is something wrong and suggesting how it can be changed are very welcome. People ordering me what to do are ignored. I think it's totally rude to have that attitude to people who are trying to make this game as good as possible. Trying, not always succeeding, but trying nonetheless ...

hmmm... my dear Polish friends gave few suggestions... i ain't got no free time to think about anything new...
all i wanted to do with that post was to voice my objection!
i'm in awe of you as a creator of this game, but i still think those f****** limits in their current form are irrational!

Well Someone needs to take control of these areas and organize.
Organization has been said to be the key to solving this "Problem". Why doesn't someone just try it.
I put Problem in quotations because this change hasn't been in the least a problem to me.
None of my 12 characters have been affected at all.

All I do now adays is organize the regions I have influence over. I am trying to confrom to the new ways and making the best of it. The biggest problem with organizing workers is that workers don't like to stay in one place for too long or they die of heart attacks & starvation.

As for limited resource gathering, I don't care one way or the other, it will just promote more iron-fisted rule of a region. If I decide to start a project and you are using up a spot, consider yourself dead or in jail.

nor mine. organization is the key. You Polish players have an interesting situation to deal with--lots of people but no infrastructure to speak of. Historically, when places become overpopulated the populations have to spread out or they'll OVERFARM or deplete the natural resources.

This sounds like an excellent opportunity for both in-character organization and exploration. And unlike most of the game's history, you actually have an incentive for it.

So that's fun.

The surrounding area is pretty poor and unpopulated, although there is plenty of BARLEY to trade.

One effect of these limits is that unsettled areas will remain unsettled because of the uncertainty of availability of resources. If someone wants to settle in Brunoi Hills (south), for example, where there is plenty of wheat, they need to build a millstone and oven to make the wheat into bread. But you can't build an oven without a building. Before the limits, such a person could go Hilloi, collect potatoes and stone, cart the stone to BHS, and so on until the building, millstone, and oven were built.

I remember Hilloi and think about it a lot. :) I would agree that 6 might be a bit low in that particular town. And that was a nicely laid out argument by the way, melbi, even though I disagree somewhat. :)

My second character spawned in Kwaki, next to Hilloi. I spent a day to gather wheat only to find I couldn't eat it. Grabbed some meat and found out I couldn't eat it. Then walked 16 days to Hilloi where I was given potatoes to keep me going while I helped other people work on projects. That was my introduction to a barren land. And he didn't have to spend everyday micromanaging a company or belonging to a company at all. He was a capitalist who took advantage of a trade opportunity when it presented itself. I honestly played him only a few minutes a day for several Cantr years and he was doing quite well for himself traveling, hunting, and trading.

This is why some of us keep saying that organization is important. That character's mission in life soon became devoted to traveling to bring distant goods to Hilloi to help the region grow. Unfortunately he was murdered on the way home. :(

It sounds like you then have 26 pairs of hands waiting to start manufacturing. The people gathering need tools and things and buildings to store what they are collecting. Make them. Need other things to do that? Send a group to go get them. This is not difficult. Very few of my characters actually gather anything any more. They trade for resources. They work. And if you are looking for wealth and capitalism this is the best way to get it. My most recent character had earned a full outfit and a weapon within the first year by agreeing to lend a hand with manufacturing tasks.

And I am not trying to be rude or accuse everyone of whining here. Maybe 4 gatherers might be too low for a particular region. And I believe if you would listen, Jos has said several times that the rates are subject to adjustment. Take a look, think about it a bit. But "drop the f***ing limits" is not a rational argument. "Limits suck" is not a rational argument.

With time, I predict this discussion will die off and be replaced by the next rant, and everyone will look back and wonder why they hated this in the first place.

organisation, organisation, organisation, bla, bla, bla :P ...

even with "organisation", which will lead to many deaths BTW, it'll take hundreds (thousands) days to reach just equal level as you -- English, have on your isles...

and what if someday some of your chars land on our beaches and start to kill us?

the limit is indeed necessary, but not in its current f****** form!

Hmm, that's a bit *too* low. It's increase by 50% now. Might not be the last change ;) ...

To be sure, for *every* location where the number was lower than 7, I increase by 50%.

Ok. I was finally affected by the limits today. So I sat down to start repairing my tools. :D I also helped out a newspawn that was asking for something to do by giving her my old stuff. Isn't that nice?

Someone dragged my character into building and I lost the slot. This has been done without any talk between others, so that was probaly single player's characters.

It is not good that we can't see who dragged us out. This allows uncontrolled dragging and brings mess into the game.

Marol, contact the PD about that if you are worried. They can check the dragging records and talk to the player if he was cheating.

Why do you say that the dragging was cheating? That, and piracy, seem natural responses to scarce resources. Are there going to be new rules to limit our responses to the new situation?

I don't want to name the location, but one of my characters would be much better off if she could organize a crew to kill -- or at least scare off -- everyone in a nearby town. Not that the people aren't nice (they are!); they just take up valuable space.

Come to think of it... this might be what happened to one of my characters, who returned to a town only to find herself threatened and struck immediately upon arrival. She was informed that the town was "under police control". Since this character is not well armed, she retreated.
