Don't people pass through towns like this all the time?
Oh, I don't mind passers-bys at all!
I do mind passer-bys who say something, complain about sleeping residents not a minute later and then head out saying that the town is full of sleepers, while not having been in the town longer then a few hours.

Characters that make themselves misunderstood because their player is too distracted/impulsive/uncaring to emote them properly. I'm looking at myself here.

Sadface.

Who's been annoying me lately....uh.....
Nobody. Strange.
Usually I can find at least one person.
But amazingly enough, I'm not annoyed today.

Re: Characters that irritate you/yours -
I get annoyed when characters question an obviously OOC thing as if they feel obligated to question it with their character because it's OOC. The OOCness in the first place annoys me also.
For example:
"What's a dragon?" (though I am a big fan of dragons)
I think references to dragons appear in multiple places in Cantr, and I admit that relatively it isn't that bad to talk about it IC, since it's simply a mystical creature (debatably IRL of course, but not IC), and it can create nice RP, however, I wouldn't recommend it..
Another example is when a character uses an OOC phrase and then another character asks about something in the phrase.
"I bruise like a banana"
"What's that?"
I also found a couple relatively less OOC examples: someone asking what a "general" is and what a "shire reeve" is.
I don't take it against the player personally, and I don't really think it's a bad thing to do, but it just bothers me.
I suppose in some cases it's probably better to ask to get the matter settled.
PS I found the examples by searching for "what is" in my turn reports. Asking about words your character doesn't know about IC seems to be what "what is" is mostly used for in Cantr.

Indeed, there are bananas. Just not in that area of the game, and the character who said the phrase didn't know what it was either.

That does irritate me, just a bit, unless it's IC to be all curious and stuff.

Considering I haven't the slightest idea what that is, my character certainly would ask.

Re: Characters that irritate you/yours -
I guess it depends on the person what sort of general knowledge they want to give their characters. Some of my characters have had to learn ingame what words like "childish" or "queen" mean. If a character is generally a bit simple, it's fitting for them to ask what words mean, while if someone is considered a wise person, they might not ask even if they didn't know what something meant, they would just guess from context and let it slip. I don't refer to dogs and such because only one of my characters has encountered them, and he didn't call them anything, but I'll usually just let it slip if someone would for example say that a person is as faithful as a dog, or follows someone around like a puppy. In rp I may have used expressions like "He has the expression of a schoolboy who got caught doing something naughty" because it says a lot to the reader, even if the characters involved didn't know what a boy is or what school is.

Re: Characters that irritate you/yours -
I've probably crossed the OOC line plenty of times: referring to animals that my char has never seen or even seen maps with them listed, using phrases that are common IRL, etc. Most of my chars will roll with someone else doing the same, others are more curious. It can create some good interaction but usually it's annoying simply because it's not done consistently, and it seems to be most often done to point out someone else's OOC reference like Joshua mentioned with no real follow up RP aside from the question.
Annoying me lately are the couples who only interact with their significant other. Worse if they get offended when someone else ignores them.

Agreed. One of mine had a partner in business and they made great plans. When everything was fleshed out and it was time to get started he became sleepy, and slept until he toppled over with a heart attac a year later.

I don't either, so me too.

So it depends. I just wanted to rant about it.
