I REALLY REALLY dislike people complaining about Doryiskom. If you don't like it, get out. There have been many charries there, leaders and not, who try hard to get newspawns jobs, buildings, and anything else they want. Too bad a lot of the newspawns slept through the process.

Speaking as someone who has had maybe 8 different charries in Dory over the years - it sucks. Worst town in the game, full stop.
Should be eliminated as a spawning location! I bet you the player base will triple over night.

That's one of the places that desperately need very good leadership. And yes if it stays like that it's best they don't get new spawns especially chars of new players. The new spawns there just got ignored in the week my char was there. And mine as well and others. Anyone hardly said anything.

That's weird..my character is always anxious to get new people to work and help out in town related stuff. I guess what's needed is focus on every single newspawn that comes in, with patience and determination even when most newspawns decide not to do anything. My character wasn't the only leader in that town, but I feel bad. Sorry, though my character gave up a lot to try and help that town.
There really is some good stuff that goes on there though.

Doryskom acts cold towards others. Have seen it several times with different chars. And if your char is leader there he might want to check outside once in a while as I haven't seen anyone claiming to be a leader there. And that was before the game went down so very recently. Yes I know they have been attacked. But isn't that all the more reason to have a strong leader? And it doesn't matter that much how large it is there. I know one of my chars could run that town very well if he wanted to but he's tired off all the ungrateful people during the last time he did help lead a town. Doryskom is just the best example at the moment of how a town should not be managed.

There's two leaders, plus lower ranked leaders, and it's democratic (maybe that's the problem. I've learned from Doryiskom how hard it is to get democracies to work.)
About the attack, indeed that has made things kind of hectic. If you came around the time of the attack, then yeah most people are inside.
I'm thinking it'll only succeed if we can get over the fact that people are ungrateful.Arenti wrote:I know one of my chars could run that town very well if he wanted to but he's tired off all the ungrateful people during the last time he did help lead a town.

Yes it's not just ungrateful. And of course I accepted that people are that but it goes much further about this char of mine. He has done everything for a certain town, Because of him it started to run again. Don't want to say too much about it.
And yes democracies do not work in Cantr. Too few active ones for that in the same town.

One of the advantages of big cities, gameplay wise, is that the high population allows for informal leadership as well. If the designated leadership isn't doing a good job, it can present an opportunity for other characters. What happens to people when they are neglected in their youth? Someone might be able to sway them to a gang/posse environment. Or sort of adopt them as an apprentice. Maybe a mixture of both. I almost want to get another character in Dory just for that opportunity.

Spawn up to eight characters, and you're bound to get one in a desolate, primitive area anyways, far from the original continents.. That was my experience with my newish batch of spawns. There have been enough life long sailors wandering around for this to happen.
I don't want a reset, and I already have a character in a desolate area. (The town is not desolate, thanks in large part to my efforts, but the surrounding area is.)
If people want a character in the middle of nowhere with a primitive level of development and plenty of opportunity, they shouldn't have to roll dice again and again. Just let them choose "frontier town," as Seko suggests. It has all the benefits of a new world with none of the stupidity of destroying the years of effort that people have put into the game.

I miss Doryiskom in a way... My char Karanmir got pretty involved for a while, until BlackCanyon went and quit the game and broke his heart.notsure wrote:I REALLY REALLY dislike people complaining about Doryiskom. I've never been to Doryiskom myself. I've picked up notes about Dory (mostly laws and old trade price lists), listened to some communications on the radio, and I've read peoples' comments about it here on the forum, opinions of which are quite mixed. That's all I really have to say about it.

On the idea of roleplaying the down time, as expressed by some:
My characters won't know the game wasn't up. They will see no time gap, so why roleplay it at all? As EchoMan said it won't be much of a role back in time either as they (EchoMan and Doug) were right onto it as it was happening. That 'may' create a time warp with some things not happening (which has been discussed on various threads) but will my characters be aware of this? I think no, that information is OOC. Hence I feel no need to roleplay the down time at all, but keep going right from where we left off, um, if I can remember where that was.....
What I think I will be roleplaying, as said already, is why so many are sleeping.
*She sobs and shakes them* Wake up - PLEASE - Wake up!
To feed them or not to feed them, hmm, that is the question.
