Re: General Roleplay Discussion
I just leave it blank. Depending on the character that either leads to, "Hey who are you?" or the character just waits until he hears someone say their name. It would just be too easy for me to forget I don't know people.

You say "*point to John* So, what's your name?"
I think if you're asleep and they say there name its ok to learn it... otherwise I've been playing 'really' wrong for a 'long' time. Same premise as when they say anything else. If you had to wait till you were awake to hear anything then nothing would ever get done. I'm around people I've known for years that I'd still be trying to say hello to.

Re: General Roleplay Discussion
Okay, I do admit that I bend "reality" to the point where I will continue to participate in projects even while sleeping (usually, but not necessarily always.. depends on how badly I need it.. like, will I go hungry if I don't?), but I don't act on stuff that's gone on around me (with the exception that if it's something that has just happened in the past few cantr minutes, I might let it be the event that "wakes me up"). OTOH, not being logged in does NOT necessarily constitute going to sleep. I have to RP the falling asleep in order for it to be sleep (rp'ing paying rapt attention to something else, for example, will still let me pick up interesting tidbits, even if I don't comment on them for another 3 cantr hours)

Re: General Roleplay Discussion
I personally dislike it when people assume my character is sleeping. I will "bend reality" as mentioned above when it makes sense to do so.
Example: People are talking to me in the middle of the day.
In the above example of course I hear them, why would my character not be able to hear them? He/She does not sleep during the day, they are not nocturnal. If you say "I am just waiting for bob to wake up" it doesn't strike me as good, or accurate role play. Cantr is not ment to be played like a character must be logged in to interact with. You should say something like this "I am waiting for bob's response". One shouldn't project your ideas onto my character when they don't make sense.
Little bit of a rant their

My view of Cantr is that people are asleep standing up working on projects. If you are not speaking then you are sleeping, or napping. Kind of like a trance.
Does anyone else picture cantr as lego or block head characters?

lol you might want to read how Cantr was created. It was because of lego.

I wrote a summary explaining that cantr people really ARE lego people in... hmm... some forum topic.

Re: General Roleplay Discussion
Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but do any of you feel that it is bad RP for a character to sing songs that they did not create? ie songs that are hugely popular in the OOC world?
One of my chars recently witnessed another char singing The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix and I had a terrible time biting my tongue. Maybe it's just me, but I find it in extremely poor taste...

And now I (probably) know who you are!
I just think that it shows a lack of creativity... In RL it's not acceptable to take credit for someone else's work, and even though Cantr isn't RL, I don't think it's fair to drag material from one realm to the other.

As a player of a singing character myself, who has created about one song every 3-4 cantr days, yeah, I agree, songs should be those of your own creation, not something OOC (I had the same problem with someone borrowing a poem from OOC). At least, if someone is annoyed by my singing, it's MY singing they're annoyed at

That's is a CRB, I'm pretty sure it's against the rules. You should either report it or warn the player with a OOC line. And if you're going to sing in Cantr but don't know what to say or just have low confidence, write just three our four simple sentences and fill the rest up with RP, no one will notice the small song and it'll be good RP...I hope.

Re: General Roleplay Discussion
I've sung traditional songs but changed the words to fit Cantr, so I think it's half OK.

Re: General Roleplay Discussion
It wouldn't bother me if someone said: *sings to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"* "blah blah blaaah". As long as 90% of the words were changed. The OOC info in the emote just helps the other players process the char's singing better. The one incident that sticks out in my mind as being irritating was someone singing Garth Brooks "Friends in Low Places" and changed only a couple words. That's just lame.
