Cantr II is not currently available. How bad is it?

General out-of-character discussion among players of Cantr II.

Does the server work the way you think it should?

Not at all! I'll quit this game if the problem is not solved now!

I hate it, but I love the game so much so I'll probably stay anyway.

It's not that bad. Could be better, but does not bother me much.

I found out that many times pages were waiting for the ads to load, and since the ads were part of the main layout table, the whole page had to wait. Once I split the page layout into 3 divs, everything sped up immensely. Now the left nav div, and the main content div can load even though the right side div that contains the ads might not be loaded yet.

I'm not saying that this is a problem in Cantr (since I have the ads blocked anyway), but I've noticed this to be a problem in several other games I've played.

I suspected ads at one time. But there are only ads at log-in, and after that it should be OK.

Major snafu this time. The server was down for several hours. Now that it's back up, my characters' inventories are empty, and there is nothing on the ground. Maybe more things have disappeared too.

Yes, no notification of arrival when travelling, all food, tools, notes, gone!

Could be fun!

Such actions and incidents are the makings of religions and fables. Go ahead and enjoy the oportunity for roleplay. I understand it sucks to lose resources and such.

A very fun time for me when anyone inside a particular building in a town was transported to another town far away. We had to make sure to go back in our building to make sure we got zapped back to our original location. It was very wizard of oz-ike

Errors that extreme actually happen in Cantr? I didn't know that. Anyway, the lag is definitely getting worse lately. Also a lot of people seem to be dying lately too.

I'm using a different computer then I normally do, so I'm hoping that the bad lag I'm experiencing is partly because of the computer I'm using. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it is Cantr. No matter what, something needs to be done. Lag is constantly interrupting gameplay for me. It usually gets fixed quickly, but now it starts up again fast too. It is terrible.

Regarding lag ... from my experience, the problem seems to be that some processing tasks are taking a very long time. There seems to be consistent lag around the time of the project tick. I've read someone saying the same of the travel tick.

Would it be possible to break up the lag-causing tasks into smaller chunks? I understand that for any given location, once you start processing the project tick, you would want to finish it before processing player page loads. However, I don't see that it would be necessary to do all of Cantr's locations at once. Perhaps each island could have its projects processed, and then the program would process player page loads before moving on to the next locations.

As an example, let's say that there are 5 islands that take a total of 5 minutes to process projects. There are 10 page loads requests per minute.

Current setup:

• 5 islands' projects (5 min. lag)
• 50 page requests

Revised setup:

• Island 1 projects (1 min. lag)
• 10 page requests
• Island 2 projects (1 min. lag)
• 10 page requests
• Island 3 projects (1 min. lag)
• 10 page requests
• Island 4 projects (1 min. lag)
• 10 page requests
• Island 5 projects (1 min. lag)
• 10 page requests

Processing is already divided into smaller chunks.
