I have downsized my account as well in the last week...was just waiting for the last character to be deleted. Here is the list. Sorry for any problems this may have caused but I do know that a few people are happy about it.

So YOU were Pisa..... *sighs and shakes her head* You've left us right in the dark! lmao ... My char wants to ask Pisa a whole load of stuff but can't now! bother! lmao. This is gonna be interesting.

I used to know Delaney too but luckily she doesn't affect any of my people now.

I've only been playing 3-4 months, but even in that amount of time it seems like the game has grown less fun. One thing that really irks me is repair times. It's just plain boring to have to spend a week -- and that's a week in real life, mind you -- just having one of your chars whiling away hours repairing things. And if you have a lot of things, it can conceivably take one week out of every six just to maintain stuff.

Now they're making it harder to get food, so that will take longer too.

And it takes years sometimes for a newspawn to work up to some iron or steel, to be worth anything.

And it takes weeks to travel anywhere.

I love the friggin' game, but it's a love-hate thing. And every change that comes down the line seems geared to making it more slow, more boring, and more busywork.

Meh.

You've got to work with other people - it's not a solo game. For example, I know a town that has ample food available for its people and the character that likes to do all the repairs is often at a loose end, waiting for more repair requests.

I like the fact that progress is quite slow - otherwise you'd get people becoming powerful enough (iron and steel arms and armour) with minimal effort, then getting bored and causing all sorts of random destruction before quitting the game.

Well, yeah, you've got to work with other people. But even when you do.... Look, I've got a char that lucked into a pretty good situation, but he still spends days upon days sailing between trading locations just to get anything done. I have 9 chars, and between repairing, or travelling, or working on large, time-consuming projects, more than half the time when I log on I wonder why I bothered.

Most of the time, the thing that makes it good is the relationships and roleplaying. But when only 7 of 45 people in a town ever bother to take the time to talk, even that has its limits.

I've only been playing for 2-3 months, and I don't have those same problems.

Granted, some of my characters don't have iron or steel yet - but most of them don't have it because they're not interested in it yet. Many of them are quite successful.

One of them is cooking his way through 50 kilos of meat.

Another is making a heck of a profit just trading wood. His main problem is trading for commodities that weigh less.

And one of my characters is working on setting up a business. He's done a couple trades for ore and worked for some limestone and fuel, and now he's making his own iron tools. And he's only 22.

Other characters started in bad locations and had to do some travelling, but in general, I've only ever had to do one move to get to a spot where I could get food and get started, none of which took more than like 2 days to travel.

If you're talking about walking across the entire island in search of a specific resource, though, I can understand. That's why two of my characters are mapmakers first, and everything else second. :D Knowledge is power.

Yeah, admittedly, I don't seem to find these things as damaging to my enjoyment as some other people do, but then I guess it comes down to that wonderful Cantrian question: are you trying to 'win' this 'game'? I know I'm not.

@ The recent responses:

When you're 50 or 60 something and you're sitting on a pile of iron and steel and all that good stuff and only the ten odd people in your town and maybe half that in surround towns know your name, let alone maybe one or two people who know your actual character, you'll realize the old material cliche "money doesn't necessarily bring happiness" or substitute iron into that. That is if you're even awake enough to realize that.

@ The topic at hand:

Cantr is a game (like the Sims, or to generalize--life even, though I realize you can say "death," but I'm talking about every day life--and as for Cantr [for better or for worse], you can always create a new character) that has no recognizable or successful end, apart from the intrinsic. Considering that, people opt out at certain times, or feel detached at other times, as they do in real life (and sometimes the one influences the other). I've been playing a while now (to make it an understatement), and faces will come and go and that will be that. If you can't prioritize things one way or the other, or discipline yourself (i.e. not burning or fading out, as nearly happened to me), you're not going to be able to do with what you would do with wine or life, savour it. I think that's the most important thing. Then again, it might give you the epiphany worth more than a Chinese Fortune Cookie, but not of course one that real sickness or trauma would. It also depends on highly in how, and to what depth, you devote to your characters (and clearly some more than others). Like everybody, they too all have a story (plug: Chronicles of Cantr), and so the line I get to at the end of the day, was mine (my character's) worth telling.

Sorry glitterdown, I think the notes came from a newspawn travelling from Quill Lakeside that was attacking people, and I happened to kill.
