I've had increases with different characters on hunting, collecting wood and gathering spinach. So I think the skill system is nice, it's only sad that skills for a lot of new characters already imply in what direction a char might evolve.

Most people do what their skills decree, one man in our town almost had to be attacked to stop digging for mud.
