You'd think they'd learn somthing :P

Yes, your character is definitely increasing his skills, but I might have set the effect too small ...

Ok good because they were hitting 3's to begin with and now that they're a little injured they're hitting 2's
Another thing i wanted to know. Only if it can be divulged here. Do weapons help or do you increase just the same with your fists?

Recent change which now means one of my characters doesn't save anything with an iron shield - absolutely terrible

New shield change is totally un-needed :x

Until I see someone go out and make all of the changes that they are suggesting, into a game that they created, I am going to praise Jos for his hard work. And I am not going to complain about the changes that he does implement. While I will state my opinion, whining isn't a way to get things done. Congrats, Jos, on making a game that is actually fun, and that is not a hack-and-slash game (that goes for all who contributed in making Cantr).

Okay, when skills are implemented I would like to see combat skills added I mean not so its like making cantr into a hack-and-slash game or w/e but I think it would just be a sweet addition to the game, But on the otherhand combat skills would be a turn off because technically people consider your a warrior on how you act and if you have a sabre and shield etc. So I guess its a natural skill because you and the people around you are the ones who decide if your a warrior or not.

I appreciate the work that has gone into this recent programming in the skill system, but if we are indeed improving with our skills, then the improvement rate is far too slow.

I am however hoping that this system will not prompt players to constantly kill off their newspawns until they get 15 characters that start off with expert combat. There should be some way to prevent newspawn eugenics.

When did this game become a hunting/killing game?
Sure, it'd be great to get a nice war going... Round up some skilled fighters and go try to kick some ass. Even if everyone was strong in combat, you'd still just be dragged into a building and hacked at until death.

Perhaps if there was a limit on dragging people to once a day... but that might be blasphemy...

I havnt seen any of theese "newspawn eugenics" yet and I dont think people are gonna kill newspawns just so they can get have expert combat. Im sure laws will be restricted or maybe even loosened up and unemployment will go up but untill theres the whole "newspawn eugenics" I wouldnt worry. *points to combat skills poll*

When did this game become a hunting/killing game?

Well, it is supposed to be a society simulator. All the peace and cooperation is much more annoying and unrealistic.

I wouldn't be too sure about this, Ovault. We've seen it starting, and are trying to keep a close eye on it. We've always had the problem of players killing off their newspawns because they don't like the location they spawned in. (often an assumption, but you can tell, when those players do it repeatedly) This will also be an assumption in some cases, but more recognizable in others, especially when you have established characters suddenly acting like suicidal newspawns, just so they'll be killed. Or, players repeatedly doing so, or having their own characters hit themselves on a daily basis.

I'm not so sure anyone can say that rates are too low.
If you want to get better, TRAIN. I have yet to see a good fighting school in Cantr. Do you think warriors just trained a few minutes a day hunting sheep while they spent the rest of the day farming? No.

I don't think that you're the only one who has been trying to train his characters, Nick. Can you, or for that matter, can anyone confirm that they have a character who has clearly improved after much training? If so by how much? A point of damage? Several points? How about farming? Has anyone found that they're shaving off an hour on a normal day's worth of work?

Jos says it's implemented and it's working, but has anyone who has been trying gotten practical results?

Someone had said that they saw a newspawn hit all the animals, and went from awkward to novice.
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

That newspawn must've been on the very limit between the two..

I did see it happen. Here is an edited transcript of the events. So that you can see for yourself. I edited out everything but the attacking. Notice that he did do alot of attacking, and I think that you shouldn't be able to train your fighting skills after you are 100% tired.
