Lord Nick's paranoid about Karnon, and I find that funny, considering they haven't killed a tribesman since the time of Grant. (Did they even do that then? I wasn't around as a player at that time.)

Nick is paranoid about them, it is a belief of his that they want to go back into the old days of Ace Grant (jules and nayr anyway). Also it wasnt only TBR in the Forest in the time of Ace Grant, I am sure west could give you a better run down on what happened back then, but I'm pretty sure no TBR died then, only Karnon soliders.

AoM wrote:I guess I don't like TBR because I feel that there's a lot of hypocracy involved in its past (and perhaps present). Headstrong rulers who know that they do wrong. Bullies, in my opinion.

Obviously there is some bad and they know it so they try to manipulate the situation aka lie about it. TBR is a show of force type of people, they dont go set up "outposts for protection" I dont see how people could buy into that, you let them build an outpost you let them have the town. :P TBR is more like well this is ours now you dont like it leave or stay and fight.

AoM wrote:On a similar line of thought: I'd be interested in seeing what the general opinions are of Karnon, and the Imperial Republic. We got some votes on that 'most hated government poll,' they couldn't have all been TBR players... could they?

I am obviously one that voted against Karnon Imperial. I think they manipulate people of the towns they build those outposts in, they build the outpost and then basically claim it as their own after that and I am pretty sure that was an opinion held by a few different people. They are slowly working towards Island domination with Jules and Nayr.

(What I said my be crossing that line Oasis was talking about, Im not sure though. If let me know and I can remove it.)

I have had two characters killed because of them and another one almost killed by them so I am not sure how I can answer this.

What me or my chararacters ?

One fears them and wishes they were gone (though they did have great fun playing with the pompous late Mogul Lord - it's suprising how far you could push him )
One is neutral and is happy to trade under the new system
One is a loyal and keen member of TBR

and 8 others haven't the faintest idea what TBR is , and effectively couldn't care less - So I suppose thats ambivalent.

But seriously I believe that TBR have made such a great contribution to the game. K-Isle for me is a place riddled with intrigue, power play and politics. People lurch from one (often imagined) crisis to another.
The current changes only pour more oil on troubled waters , so from a players point of view it's all that more exciting . But from a characters point of view .. well they are "living in interesting times"

No Blackrock tribesman died as a result of Grant. I'm pretty sure about that.

And what do I think?

One of my characters has TBR sympathies
One of my characters couldn't care less.
One of my characters has only just arrived, and is guaranteed to laugh at TBR. Should he meet them. He has survived much much worse...

And 12 of my characters have never heard of them.

I only have two characters on the island. One is a member of TBR, so his views are obvious.

The other doesn't much care for government of any form. He dislikes the whole thing in that area of the island, but doesn't really feel strongly about it. Crazy loner fool.

Exactly what TBR is most commonly accused of! Funny old world...

One of my characters spawned in the forest, joined up pretty quickly and has deep personal loyalties to friendly (if strict) Lord Nick.

One character has close friends harmed very seriously by TBR and would attempt to kill any member on sight.

A third has heard scary stories about TBR and is very wary of them, but in his personal interactions with members sees them as just regular folk. So he's starting to relax a little.

The other twelve characters have never heard of them. 8)

That was you?!   Thank you!!!

I personally appreciate TBR because they are indeed evil....the fruitz of the devil! It was almost painful to watch the Karnon Seaside takeover, with all of the bs reasoning and pointless arguments thrown up in a vain attempt to disguise what was actually going on! But it was very entertaining and a good addition to the game. TBR is nearly my ideal villan. They are evil but they still add character to it. It's not just senseless violence.

Got to love that takeover...

My guy arrives there, and there are no Blackrocks in sight... a great takeover...

My TBR member actually made a hasty retreat from there, a little scared. Turned up in the forest half a year later and joined the tribe. Confused little fella, still is.

I have a character who has now travelled to every location on that island, with interesting insights into TBR.

Here's my conclusion:

People need to GET OVER IT. Things happened 5, 10 years ago that people are still holding a grudge over. The folks who were in charge then aren't in charge now. They're not going to give back what was taken improperly.

TBR needs to GET OVER THEMSELVES, too. The arrogance they display (and that's not just in-character: I cannot fathom why one would continuously bring up TBR's "glory days" (which most everyone else perceives as the Dark Ages) on the forums except to make people continue to remember the bad stuff that they've done in the long-ago past. If you want people to accept TBR, you need to let both characters AND PLAYERS forget!

Lil T screams and hides if he even hears the name Blackrock. And that is the only character that knows about them right now. Juice doesn't really know much about them and could care less as long as the people they hurt come to the house of healing and leave donations.

Maybe if my characters hadn't seen the old Blackrock, they could see the new one them as everyone else seems to.

Lopan still calls Nick Blackrock 'Nicki'...lol

Of course it wasn't only TBR in the forest during that time; for most of it they were a distinct third in power to the Collective and Firecam. And HvyThg and Austin, who spent their entire lives acting however they could to grab as much power as possible while staying alive.

Anyway, it was the Collective with a bit of help who captured Grant's entire army and locked them up, then locked Grant up separately and everyone killed him. I believe it was either Austin Powers or the Karnon desertee Flinn who struck the final blow, but Alex Blackrock, Rick O'Shea, Etain nic Danu, Ben Zolar, Norbert Billington and Austin Powers all helped.

As for Grant's army, either they were all played by the same people or they all rpd sleeping sickness really well; either way, they all dropped dead without being killed.

It was after Rick left for Karnon to try to help set up a new, non-Imperial government there that Alex Blackrock started acting insane and power-crazy, and when Rick returned, having set up a 3-person council (incl. Jules Vernes) in Karnon, they captured Alex (who had fought with Austin Powers, who was an on-again-off-again member of the tribe, and just as crazy as Alex) and he committed suicide while imprisoned (I mean, they hit him, intending to kill him--the phrase "too crazy to let out" was used) but in the end he 'confessed' how evil and/or crazy he was, dropped his food, and starved himself to death.

In a rather stupid move, Austin Powers was put in charge of the tribe, and young Nick and Deacun Blackrock argued with him and eventually Austin was thrown out and Nick and Deacun were the Tribe's leaders. Still, everything was peaceful for a bit, although Nick and Deacun didn't get along, and Karnon Forest was uneventful for a while.

The rest is long and drama-filled, maybe Bran can share.
