You mean they haven't listened to your complaints often enough, don't you Nick?

Combat is not a huge part of the game. Accept that. It is however, an important part... and I don;t think its all that bad.

About the tiredness thing... try attacking someone with a sabre. In all likelihood it will be more tiring than a lifetime of slowly pulling carrots from the ground, having a good nights sleep every night. I think the combat system is just fine at the moment. I think there should be slight tweaks to certain weapons, but its otherwise great.

Skills, now thats a different matter. But I believe it could be solved with a "practice with a weapon" project. Then we can have professional soldiers... who will be more powerful, but are dependent on others, as they need to train every day.

There are a few problems with training with a weapon as I see it. As I understand the situation, Jos doesn't want to have one hit kill players because this game is supposed to be able to be played by people who log in only once per day among other reasons. That means that if you were able to significantly increase your damage, they would have to shift everyone's damage down to allow growth, but not allow people to do too much damage. Like I have a char that can do about 45 damage to another person with a composite recurve bow (and around 50 with a sabre). If they allowed him to improve 50%, and he got a very high powered weapon (read crossbow, claymore, compound bow, ect.), he would be dealing somewhere in the 90s as far as damage, which is unbalanced, and I am sure that there are players that can deal more then him. And with the way that skills currently pass on to newspawns (as I have heard), things would quickly get out of balance and out of control. I think that many things would have to be adjusted before a change like this could be implemented.

Yes, with a training thing, then it would become more like a hack n' slash game... something I do not like.
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

Talapus, your math is way off buddy.

And Surly, if you listen to my complaints, my complaints are at people complaining.
I trust Jos' vision of the game.

And Cantr is a society simulator. Violence is a big part of society. Ergo...

My math I don't think is particularly wrong, excepting numbers based on what I noted as the "powerful weapons", noting that none of my characters yet have any of these weapons, so any numbers are just conjecture and extrapolation. Anyways, even if my numbers are not based in any solid knowledge, I will say that training without any other changes to the amount of damage dealt would be poorly balanced at best. Not that it is a bad idea to have training, but rather, large steps would have to be taken to implement this idea.

That you concluded you could deal 90 damage? You must have done bad math, somewhere.

That was 90 damage if my character had a 50% increase in his damage if you read my post. That assumes that the powerful weapons do about 20% more damage then a sabre (10 damage for my character). Assuming then that my character would do 60 damage, a 50% increase would put his damage at 90. That was why I was argueing that training would be bad in many cases

I think your take on the combat system is slightly skewed...

Perhaps. I only have the experiences of my characters to go by right now. Unless you would like to point out some of the aspects that I likely don't know or havn't yet seen?

Well, I can't know the combat system fully either, I'm also just a player.
But from what I gather, your take on the combat system is a tad too simplistic.

Probably so. I understand that they made alot of changes to the combat system when they changed from set damage, always block, ect. I know that I don't have a complete grasp of the system. I do know however, that damage in the high 70s would make my cringe. Perhaps the training that was mentioned could reduce your chance to miss, even when tired? I think that would be useful to a fighter, but not too powerful as to unbalance the game?

From what I can gather, there is not much improvement made with training, at all.
In fact, I've noticed that your skills slide faster than you can improve them, in some cases. Could be wrong though.

Ahh, that is where are mix up was. You see, I was refering to Surly's proposed ""practice with a weapon" project" as far as increases in damage and such go, not the current improvement/decrease in skills that we have been seeing from steady use.
