I didn't need a break, I am fed up with the game. I'm done. The technical nightmare that has been created has driven me away.

I'm sorry to see you go. I must say that in spite of being self-appointed Moaner-in-Chief for some time, I'm feeling much more positive right now.

On the other hand, Revanael, that's a frankly silly comment. There were huge and absurdly unnecessary problems and they drove many excellent players away from the game. Your sole contribution seems to be to beat the drum and moan at people who swear. The communications department could be more than that, yes?

But the worst of the problems with "tiredness" system seem to be over, rendering it a mere inconvenience. And I've found my own personal way around the "skills" system. Neither of these two "innovations" were worth a damn of course, but at least we can now move on.

Generally, I'm cheerful. :D

Nice to hear you're coming back to the light side...at least part way...

Hey, I don't like or understand people quitting Cantr...but there's no need to try and insult someone for doing it, is there?

Is this killing off the chars with bad skills?
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

I'd rather not make any further comments, if you don't mind. Let's just say that certain characters, whose already established personalites and positions were irredeemably ruined by the "wrath of the gods," have now gone mad or got lost or died of broken hearts...in one instance aided a bit by Baron F. :wink: It was a period of catharsis and it's over and done with now. Thanks to that catharsis, I'm able to continue. :D

I've got two characters that I considered to be extremely strong, rugged warrior types. One of them I loved very much, and the other only moderately interested me. When the change came, the former instantly became one of the weakest hitting characters that I controlled, while the other became probably the pinacle of warrior development.

I love my now weaker character much more than my superbly skilled character, even after the changes. Because what's important overall in Cantr is NOT the power-gaming aspects, whether you cause 13 or 57 damage with a crossbow. I don't pay attention to that stuff because in Cantr a personality is shaped more by the culture than his individual skill set.

Exactly. The local culture. And what was the local culture of Zhift Forest all about? Lions! Of course this was a little way back when lions used to hit just about every day, ie before they kept on and on tinkering with the values. Zaro even wrote a poem about his life:

People of far Zhift, Attend!
What does deep midnight's voice contend?
As lions roared I slept my sleep,
And now awake at dreaming's end:
The newly dawning world is deep,
Deeper than day can comprehend.

Deep too is its surrounding woe,
Harsh claw met soon by bone spear throw;
Yet joy lies deeper than heart's agony:
Woe speaks, and says to me: Fade! Go!
Then joy too speaks, demands eternity;
An eternity yet to live and world to know.

He did try very very hard, and the poem was addressed to precisely that issue, but ultimately he died of a broken heart.

Zaro was local leader of a forest community where lions were the only source of food, the only source of danger, and the principal topic of conversation and cultural invention.

And Jos condemned him to die. Remember what Jos himself wrote:

"And the genes don't show regional specifics because that takes time ... Over time, people with bad genes in animal rich areas will die before the others do hence reproduce less, hence we'll get typical local characteristics. But entering that manually was too complicated and also from an evolutionary perspective uninteresting."
