I certainly can't say that things have been getting better in any way. My characters are barely functioning. To perform an action that requires any steps at all eats up an extraordinary amount of minutes and most of the locations of my characters are devoid of activity with the exception of a brave soul here or there. I have broadband and I can't imagine what it is like for someone who has dial-up. I dislike the idea of shutting down........ but I dislike more the slow and excruciating atrophy that is currently taking place.

I still think that suspending the whole game is the safest solution. Suspending eatimg would at least ensure that nobody starves, and I’d go for that- along with one or two other things perhaps, as the next best solutuion.
I’m no expert, but it strikes me that our old bugbear tiredness is probably the main culprit. It recently went through a few changes, didn’t it, which only made it more complex- hence more time-consuming for the server. It also updates every hour, nowadays, and I’ve often noticed that the hourly updates slow the server down considerably while they’re running. So suspending tiredness- if that’s possible- might just put things back to normal speed-wise.

I mean it can't be just lots of action happening and lots of new players, this slowness came quite suddenly with no obvious reason. Maybe there's some unnecessary code loop somewhere repeating itself over and over again and consuming the bandwidth? Just freezing the game is a temporary solution that fixes nothing, only stops more damage from happening. Imagine what if the game was started again and it would still be as slow? And yet you had wasted a week or more waiting for it to get better. I think freezing eating and animal attacks for a while would stop people from dying, ok that doesn't stop people from attacking each other since such breaches can be expected, I'm sure people are keeping an eye on such behaviour.

Please do close Cantr down, NOW!
Yesterday it took me over 40 minutes just to check if all my characters had enough food. At that rate, playing cantr is a burden, not a hobby.
And as we speak it has taken me over 10 minutes to get from the frontpage to a character page, so it's definitely not improving.

I've an idea you can only read the "LOCKED" message if you're already logged in, then try to access a character page. And now they've made it impossible to log in, apparently, so only the lucky few ever got to read the "LOCKED" message. So you'll just have to take our word for it. Another stroke of sheer brilliance from the Programming Department! (er...yep , I was being ironic just then, just in case you hadn't noticed)

Also, I only check one char a day. Ridiculous. 15 mins to say 2 lines. I just give up.![]()
*sigh*
