Of course you are suppose to be learning these things in character but you'll figure them out and apply them to your newer chars anyway so it hardly matters, I guess.
I wouldn't ask for too much info in the forums. I thought that figuring things out with my very first chars at the beginning was one of the most fun parts of the game. Just be patient and stay in character.
Edited to ask: How did you find out about Cantr?

None of this EST - GMT is the true time I tells ya!
And Wizkey... the strange forum dwellers haven't even arrived on this thread yet... then you'll know the true meaning of Cantr.
*edges away from the crazed hordes of angry forum dwellers.)
Um... yeah.
*makes a sign to ward off the evil forum dwellers*
I think I'll cut my losses...
*runs away*

Do I count as a strange forum dweller?
@Wizkey: yea, this game is like nothing I've seen on the internet in the 5 years or so I've been connected.
You'll find that different places have different attitudes to just about everything you can think of. The best general advice for starting out is read the rules and, if allowed, start farming food. From ther you may want to check out what organisations there are in the town, see about working for someone or something to give you a purpose while you find your feet (most people are keen on enthusiastic active characters, even if it means helping them get to grips with the game), else if you have plans or your own then the world is your oyster.

*sniffs the air*
My drug induced hightened senses are tingling...
Do I feel the early stages of a hijacking of another newbies first post?...
Anyway - welcome Wizkey - feel free to ask any more questions here - or have your say - or, like the most of us, say absolutely nothing constructive whatsoever
Oh, and GMT IS THE GOD OF ALL TIME ZONES - and, considering that my house is ten meters from the Greenwich meridian line - I count myself as equivalent to Dr. Who in the time lord scales...
ahem

Non-constructive? Are you implying that I might just be increasing my post count by posting random ramblings that have no relevance to the topic, or in fact anything?
Bite your tongue!
Just as a matter of interest, which Doctor?

Oh, Hallucinating Farmer, I like that Avatar sig of yours with the cubes. THat's a guy with a guitar right? (and not an oversized bottle of beer which he is caressing?)
Welcome to Cantr, Wizkey.
As well as being patient, realize this is a long term game, without resets, so there will be certain lows and highs during the game. Don't treat the game as a novelty and burn yourself out on it. Give your characters goals to achieve and reach'em. I think that's the best way to appreciate all that Cantr has to offer (and it does offer a lot).
