SO just like everything else this part of the game needs some major adjustment or staff needs to get those beds cots and such working but even with that. The whole recovering form being tired needs to be adjusted because it's a bit much.

As for the pirate yes it is unfair that he smacked everyone single handly but it really is crazy that even a year later he is still tired from that attack. Come on now.

can anyone of the developers give a clue about how quiqly in general you accumlate tiredness (and how?) and how quickly it is possible to lose it again?

In the last few days all my characters got more then 50% tired suddenly.

The reason i am asking is i am worried that i have to spend half my cantr playing time resting even with beds and such. Is this intentional?

Claiming that playing to be asleep is making the game more fun is the most silly thing the programmers have come up with so far...

Pissed off rant about tiredness

Postby SekoETC » Sun Jan 30, 2005 6:04 pm

[rant] Suddenly out of no reason, characters are getting exhausted. Ok, everybody must have noticed this by now. And right after we figured how to work so that they wouldn't. Ok it doesn't make any sense that someone working on a physically taxing project doesn't get tired at all because it's a long project, but someone making a puny bone needle does. Still, everyone getting 50% all of a sudden is damn annoying. Why the CENSORED did you have to screw things up again?! I don't care if there's gonna be resting function added to cots, you don't have no furniture in the middle of wilderness where your character is trying to gather healing foods for a stranger while getting constantly wounded by beasts they cannot hurt back since only doing goddamn 2 percent damage! Would you Please add the same sort of tiredness for the CENSORED gorillas, thank you? Also if you are agreeing to daily wages, the counting goes CENSORED up again since people can't produce as much as they would before since they're getting tired because of some mindless bug/addition. [/rant] :|

CD EDIT: Seko, mind your language. Swearing, even with asterisks instead of a few letters, is ALWAYS unnecessary. (Revanael)

I've just finished pulling all my characters off any projects they might have had...for IC reasons so they can recover from being screwed over. (50% tired = stop working and recover)

Though I admit there is the OOC factor in my mind that maybe they'll be able to work again by the time they get back to functioning. I can dream, at least...nothing like this has been fixed lately. Just declared not to be a problem. :?

I really have no clue how this could have happened. I will check it once I'm home tonight. I only introduced furniture resting - I did not increase tiredness. I know it's already too much.

If you want to be completely ignored, you should make stupid remarks like that. I didn't have time for programming for a long time, but because of the many complaints on the forum decided to spend my Saturday on Cantr. Ok, not everything works perfect - so I 'screwed up'? Such responses are about the most demotivating you can get towards a game run by volunteers ...

And to add to that:

Sorry, in this state of mind I am pretty much unable to be polite.

If you could please fix it before a couple of my charries die from starvation, I'd appreciated it. They have gotten so tired, they can't gather enough food to keep from starving. And the tiredness doesn't seem to be lessening with long projects anymore. If it doesn't get fixed, I think most my charries will die or have a lifetime struggle just to get enough food to keep from starving. IMHO, that's not fun and I will have to quit due to the aggravation I feel from this problem. I play for fun. Not aggravation.

Thanks for responding to this emergency, Jos.

While you're about it, would it be possible to reset everybody's tiredness to zero or something like that? If not, we'll have almost everybody resting simultaneously, and Cantr will be coming to a virtual standstiill won't it? In the long term, almost everyone might starve (apart from thieves of course, who don't do anything that would make them tired, as a rule. Even if they can't find any food to steal, they'll still have the energy to harvest their own).

In a strange way, having people not care would be a far worse indictment of the game. There are players who feel very stongly about the wellbeing of their charries... who are absorbed in their lives and fates, and sometimes this does boil over, but that is in itself a credit to you and to what you have achieved with Cantr.

I now know that, thanks to some newly introduced aspects, certain of my charries will not survive. A number of those in the badlands will not see old age. Obviously I want to cry out on their behalf... I want to curse and swear at you. I've managed to take a step back and see the simulation as you do--as a vast evolutionary and social experiment--but it isn't easy even for me and I have the background for it, so expect others to have an even rougher time of it.

Anyhow, please don't get demotivated. Nobody else, it seems, has ever achieved what you have, and only a few will even recognize what it means.
