Ahem... as much as I dare to say and still keep the boss happy... as you know... FOIG...
Pirog wrote:*Will items deteriorate quicker when you use them?
No(t yet)
Pirog wrote:*Is there ways to prepare tools/weapons to not deteriorate at all as long as you don't use them? (like greasing them in some kind of oil/far)
No(t yet)
Pirog wrote:*About how quick does the items deteriorate at a normal rate? (so that you can complain now instead of when you stand with a broken tool if the pase is too quick)
Too slow, as I personally feel the RD has been initializing parameters. In fact, West's sabre in the other thread would still be "brand new" if deter had been implemented back then.

Nice suggestion, I'll keep it in mind.

Great! Item deterioration good. Prevent Cantr resource death.
Notes:
A) Technically I think hammers haven't been done yet because only my weapons are brand new.
B) Please don't make the deterioration random. Things being unpredictable for the sake of being unpredictable is annoying.
C) I know it's a work in progress, so I'm not knocking it, but the deterioration based on use is the point, I think. Deterioration of items that aren't in use isn't very important. I'm not sure Cantr should even have it.
D) Functionality should decrease (though perhaps start higher) as the item deteriorates.
Item deterioration good.

I must just add a warning here. While I do welcome item deterioration, I said earlier in my "Conspicuous Consumption" thread that you need to force activity and trading upon wealthy but stagnating areas first.
The situation has since become much worse. You have the scenario of locked buildings presided over by people in their forties or fifties who've fallen completely and irredeemably asleep. At their feet scrabble a bunch of newspawns with stone and bone weapons and tools. These are responsible in many vast areas for the sole remaining life and activity in the game.
So there is a careful balance that needs to be implemented there, and I question whether a department of people who have mainly mature characters ingame can see their way through it.
Please be very careful.
Cantr has been as boring as can be this past week. I'm only hanging on thanks to a very few characters who got a jump-start just before all this happened, perhaps 3-4 out of 15. For the rest, most are out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corpses, unable to hunt properly, exhausted and chewed up by animals. And I'm not talking about new islands, I'm talking about areas 2-3 jumps from Doryiskom, Krif, Siom...

I disagree. I have started all new characters since my account went inactive over the summer and already four of them are highly armed and protected, have joined very powerful groups and my others are just working on projects of their own like one wants to build a shipping company and another wants to build a fish shop.
Oh, and I am in Resources.
It really isn't that hard to get things. It just requires a little bit of convincing others that you are a valuable asset to them or convince them to help you. Like the real world, Cantr isn't a one person show. Some areas aren't as developed as others. So what. Develop them. You have to remember that 1000 days over 50 years have passed in Cantr. If you know Cantr history at all then you would know that within 50 years alone, powerful leaders have come and gone, Empires have risen to power and crumbled to dust, communities have appeared and disappeared only leaving relics, legends, and ghost towns to remember them by. And trust me, when I started playing my characters back in the days of 200 (almost 2 and a half years ago) we weren't handed everything on a silver platter. It took time for any of my characters to rise to power even if they had wanted it. One of my first characters, Falkirk Corla, was spawned in Drojf, one of the most resource depressed areas in Cantr in my opinion as well as the tactical focal point of two Krif Empires (so they could control the resource rich Seatown locations). Falkirk was in charge of Drojf's military and they perhaps had two trowels (use to be able to use them as weapons) and a dung fork between all the people in Drojf against an invading force of Lord Leeward and the fat, rich merchant of the now infamous Craktar the Vampire. Needless to say that Falkirk didn't survive and the First Krif Empire took control of Drojf until years later fell in upon itself after Lord Leeward's disappearance and the rise of groups like the Smoke Jaguars (also known as the Alliance), the Krif Liberation Force, Drojf Freedom Fighter, and Seatown Forest (at that time under Donna Trent later to fall into the hands of Maily Yumm and I believe now currently administered by Alicia Reed).
You just have to give your characters time to come power or to find their place in society. The new changes just give our characters more challenges to wade through and more fun for us players.
I myself had many characters who waded through social ladders;
Easle Quathak started out a simple journalist for the Russell News and in the span of his life would build a great library (now destroyed though
Sester Gartaf started out as a simple private in the Imperial Guard of the then Empire of Ladvicitavoi (now known today as the Alexian Empire) when it was under Emperor Alexi Romanov (the founder of that Empire) and would rise through battles and his dedication to become the commander of the entire military force of the Empire and the second General and would command and preside over one of the largest militaries in Cantr to date.
I also had characters build things from scratch for example;
Zak DoUrden who started out as a common thief in Cantr City and would later build DoUrden Estates and DoUrden Mercenary Company from scratch (the same group that would later defeat the Grand Army of the Alexian Empire).
And they didn't do it alone. They had to work with other people to get where they got. Zak was able to convince Donald Fagen (outpost commander for Alenz Hills Mining Company) to supply him with weapons and protection and Zak's people would service them with armed protection at their outpost. Sester needed soldiers and officers for his armies as well as Emeror approval for actions and supplies. And Easle worked with people like Jonathan Russell to build the democracy in Quillanoi and he originally bought the then vacant library in Quillanoi with the Quii he earned from writing news stories for the Russell News and much of the notes that once graced the library were kind donations from people.

So can you guys like 'pause' the deteriation process? Before people have broken tools when they are still figuring out how to fix things?
No. Right now deterioation is very slow paced. I'm sure they will have added a way to fix tools before your tools begin disappearing from deterioation.

I believe cures have been implemented as well as ways to prevent disease. It's up the characters in game to figure out how.

Gee, you guys sure live in the past.
There are no empires, there are no wars, there are no vampires - it's impossibly exhausting, the last pirate was seen sailing over the horizon complaining "I'm so TIRED!", Alicia Reed hasn't been seen in Seatown Forest for some time, and Jo Jo locked himself into a building a while back. Get the idea?

This is exactly why I considered this a top priority and started work on it. Being asleep all the time will gradually decrease their "capital", and they shouldn't be able to keep repairing vast wealth all alone. This will mean that they'll either have to hire new people to work for then (and communicate with them etc) or leave it all to waiste, which should create a vacuum for new powers to fill.
And I do not agree with you that this happens *all over* Cantr... just some places. The KDS area is very active if you look at the right places, and there are plenty of opportunities there for newspawn and veteran alike.
