Would I be correct if I guessed that the character hadn't lived in the town long?
Cantr is really barbaric. If you aren't a part of their society, people don't care what happens to you. 'Leaders' care even less.

With exceptions noted above...
Maybe this is primarily a feature of the old continents? All those ancient characters (and players?) seem to have built up an impressive disregard for others.

i woulndt go that far...

Most of the older players would not kill someone for using a firepit just because he/she is new to the town, that is something attributed to the newer players thank you.

'Newer players' like:
The entire current membership of the DoUrden Mercenary Company
Maily Yum
Donna Trent
Those nuts in one of the Olip forests that I have had the fortune to never meet...
Devon Dobbs
Lord Archorn

I don't know which of them are old players and which are new, but at least some of the characters listed are older than my oldest, and therefore their players have at least a year's experience in Cantr. All of them have, at various points, shown (what would be, IRL) an appalling disregard for the lives, 'rights' and perspectives of others.

Come to the forest with an attitude like that and you will definatly be killed.

Maily Yum

Dunno about Maily, but i dont recall anytime she killed anyone for using a firepit.

Donna Trent

Same with Donna.

Those nuts in one of the Olip forests that I have had the fortune to never meet...

And same to the nuts in the forest, they dont like people to be disrespectful, but i havnt seen them kill for using a firepit, if people disrepsect them they die, or go sleep with Urza.

The others i cant help you, becuase ive never met them.

it's not the firepit that's the point. the topic has long diverged from firepits. it's an attitude, a level of civility and fairness, and the view of death that are in question.

you can defend the olip clan as much as you want, but they are only "fair" by a very twisted usage of the word. if you are a clan member, you can get away with things, if you are not, you get killed for blinking wrong. maybe it's effective, but it's far from civilized. that's probably the most extreme example, but most places in cantr are like that to some degree.

If you take it that literally, well, no, I don't know of such an incident. But I expect if they owned a firepit, and someone used it without permission, they would be promptly killed. Especially if they did anything other than apologize profusely and do exactly what they were told to resolve the situation.

I don't actually have a problem (OOC) with people like that. Some of my characters do, but they would hide their views until they were safely away. At least, all the ones who have had such encounters would... I have one who would probably take first strike, but nothing like that has happened to him.

Just wanted to show that there may be plenty of new RP idiots, but there are plenty of old players with characters who kill strangers casually also. And I expect more of them have crosbows...

I play one of the oldest characters in the Forest and you are right, we do demand total submission from visitors.

You have 2 choices, do it our way and walk away with almost anything you want, sometimes for free.

Or be a prideful, stubborn person that does not conform to our demand and you will leave unhappy or not leave at all.

You are making the first mistake of a new cantr player, you assume you have the same rights as you do in real life. Why do you assume that each region reguards lives or perspectives of outsiders? What exactly are "rights" and who made you the person incharge of what rights should be granted in every society?

I always thought the idea of Cantr was to have regions that have different customs and ways of doing things... and if you haven't had the pleasure to meet us, how would you know how nutt we are?

I don't mind people disliking characters of mine, but please refrain from condemning my game play.

Firepits are not born, they are made by people, with hard earned stones and shovels. Why does everyone assume that these things are free to use? In your home town, people just don't go running around using machines that arent being used. Go to a nearby construction site and use the crane, see if that lands you in jail.

... and yes, if you don't apologize over and over and be a good little boy, you will probably die.

As I said before, I'm not one of the idiots who get themselves killed, nor do I assume any rights. I put rights in quotes, and only said it would be appalling IRL. In cantr, I'm one of the people who (silently) laughs at, picks off, or in one cas tries to warn off idiots who make the mistakes you condemn. If you've ever seen my 'Travelers Guide', you would know my perspective.

I only take issue with your directing your argument at me personally. There are certainly people who do need it.

However, I will persist in calling your clan 'nuts', for a number of reasons, and at least one of my characters would do everything possible to kill them all. But for geographic reasons, that won't happen. Lucky.. um.. one of us. Dunno which.

Ok, and I'm not supposed to be surprised you don't have any characters in the Alexian Lad Empire? Objectively, it's much better to be living with those at times annoying older characters then those annoying people. Well I know if you had a bitchy character when I had a Captain on duty, I'd roast you a live, then poke your eye with a chisel, sodo- I mean just billy stick your char and other painful implementations my cruel mind set forth. Muahahah.
People that you mentioned of the KDS Region are relatively objective in my opinion, though bound by alliances that aren't apparent to everyone. Definetly SF, and other lands are oppressive, but it makes it a challenge, and Cantr fun. I love it, though sometimes my chars get pissed at it. Some places like Drojf are tollerant and pretty much free, whilst they will have their counterparts.

I believe your characters can think whatever they wish of my characters... I must have misread your posts and thought you were coming at me, the player, as being a nut and killing jerk. I apologize if I came off defensive.

FYI: we don't kill people for using our firepits, but we may yell at them a little.

Back to the topic: Does the person that makes the firepit have any rights to it anymore? Again the word rights comes up, rights only exist in a society that declares actions a right. Beware the more barbaric societies or places that have no fair governing forces.

@NiTeFyRe: If I had a char spawned there, I would do my best to keep them alive and seek position. I can play the game. I haven't lost a character yet.

Now that the fighting has died down, I can join my natural semi-ally Bowser:

That you can get access to something doesn't mean that you are allowed to use it. By standard cantrian property rules, things belong to there creator unless specifically transferred, and using someone elses things without permission is unhealthy. Not that that is backed by anything but expectations.

On a higher level, cantr makes it pretty clear that 'rights' are totally artificial. You can do whatever you can do. Philosophers and the unarmed rabble don't have any say in it. If you can get the firepit 'owners' to let you go, by sympathy, argumentt, trade, or threats, If they just kill you,
Either way, morality only comes in for the post-action analysis. Unless one of the characters involved can be swayed by philosophical arguments.

Avatar of Meisora wrote:about a Cantr year ago in Karnon, I think the guard acted very civilly in investigating a murder that happened in West Kol. A man came to Karnon, told of a murderer in West Kol. Then the man he's accusing comes in. The two men are separated and cared for while the guard went to investigate. There was no bias, even though the accuser (who turned out to be the real murderer) was a former ally of Karnon.
I remember that. I was part of the guard that went to investigate the incedent. No one there knew what we were talking about. I guess the ones that knew were killed and everyone else was just spawned or outside.
I had a character who begged pleaded and sobbed asking for her life and people still killed her. The sick part is the people responsible never said a word. Just in the building and back out taking bits of her life away. "Over security."

Not that she had a weapon of defense or resisted to begin with and even readily turned around when she was being chased. She'd comitted no crime, simply wanted to discuss things. They killed her.

I can't fathom for one minute that out of 5 differant characters who were responsible for her death, not a one of them didn't feel sorry as she was made a bloody mess and ~barely~ stood there begging for her life. But I guess I'm wrong since she's dead.

if this is the same person I am thinking it is. That lady that I felt sorry for that was held captive by the TDA road crew, then thats not all entirely true. I tried to think up a way to get her out of there but I didn't want to risk my own life as seeing as I didn't have alot of food except what she gave me. It was really sad hearing her pleas that no one was listening too.

There are places that I don't agree with but Its the way those leaders made the rules. So the only way I can see to resolve it is to take over the town yourself and changes things the way you think they should be. *looks at some of his own characters* :D But for now I try and be carefull because it takes some work to get the things you need to do what you want.

Ok I must admit I let my emotions take lead too much. So I'll be silent in here for the four days required. Though I doubt the people involved read the forums. *Veil of mystery descends*
