In the Cantr world, these things always have a simple solution.

At this point, I'm glad I dont have a relationship with the remainder of my family like that. If they would have told me, I would of just said shut up. I pay my bills, you don't tell me what to do. Meaning internet etc.

I think cdls hit the core problem in his first post about people having an extreme view that doesn't make sense nor is it fair. People will mock what they don't understand, and call us strange for playing a text game. Even text games without RP get a bad rep, and for no reason other than there are no pictures.....

Anyway, here are some great tips from edited everyone's favourite blogger.

Now, its normally not a good idea to rape someone when you just meet them, especially if you don't even know if the player will be ok with it. Well, somehow i knew that the player actually WANTED to have her toon raped because she insisted that she wasn't scared when she was originally so scared she couldn't speak.

Don't rape... unless she's asking for it.

Yeah, I won't pretend to not be sickened by some of the posts enabling of raping, as if it's okay. In any situation, it's a sick, depraved act of a beast. Fine, you're a good enough writer to harness that vileness, and have it be an experience that the raped character hates, but the player finds interesting, or moving, or whatever? Fine.

But when you're a cardboard cut-out, who's distinguishing features are .... all the same over every character, some with a more increased tendancy to raping when alone for a minute with someone? Yeah, that's fairly despicable behaviour, from the player.

And when you made a public blog post (under the same name, no less) of how to RP rape 101?

PS666, regardless of all else, I wish you the best in the future, and that you look back on all this one day with the understanding of a more mature outlook. Because this is just deeply unsettling on several levels.

Thanks for the link Wiro, and ps666, this has been very informative. :) Not every rapist is skilled enough to 'somehow just know' the player wants it without asking OOC first. And we all know how disruptive and immersion breaking OOC messages are, I approve of the author's efforts to avoid bothering with them whenever possible.

Maybe 'Tips for Aspiring Rapists' could be its own thread?

This toon started out rather shy and still is. His girlfriend tries to help him with this shyness problem of his. Right now they are fighting because he accidentally raped her because he didn't know his own strength and didn't realize he was hurting her ( even though she was screaming at him..... i think i RP'd that scene wrong ). So now he's gone from shy to guilty.

I mean I'm sure this is a situation we've all been in, and the author certainly has a wealth of experience, across many characters. :)

I had a character once punch a "two personalities... One good, one evil" person in the face, as in the blog post, and they "passed out" afterwards. I don't think I ever played a straight up mercenary, though. Where was that, and who was that...

Anyway, family should be concerned when they find out their darling baby boy is serial raping Internet strangers. Rape can be a powerful character building tool (that shouldn't be played out IMO, but always faded) but when you gravitate toward it with every PC, that's probably not healthy.

A lot of people here seem to think rape is a toy to play with.

Rape is not a toy. It's very serious..... Unless it's in cantr. Then it's funny.

Forgot I wrote that blog. Damn I must have been really bored that day. I even forgot I had that blog...... It just became pointless to keep writing in it when the only time it ever got hits was when I posted a link to it.

That particular rape scene with the girl I didn't even have to talk to in OOC was rather special and unique. The end result was I became her love slave. Although that's not what I called it in character.

Anyway this topic can get buried in the back of the forums once everyone is through with the discussion of rape.

:? What in the world is your definition of "funny" here?

Could be worse. I could sail around kidnapping old people just to piss someone off who's put years of RP into someone who's now at my mercy. Pirates are cool but if that's your only aim your pretty much playing the game as a player. Not a character. Trolling people who've worked hard to actually develop a real character.

My form of villainy at least doesn't involve messing up the game for someone else.

Quoting this so he can't go back and edit it out later. Because...holy shit. 'In Cantr, rape is funny' ...um, yeah, think I'm seeing why your family is concerned with the way you play this game now, and I'd say they have every right to be.

That particular rape scene with the girl I didn't even have to talk to in OOC was rather special and unique.

This too. So how often has this happened? This, and then there was that time you had sex with someone in front an open window where the whole town could see, even if you played that one off as an accident and no big deal.

Do you really think the OOC consent rule just doesn't apply to you, and if so, why is that? :?
