I close them immediately, even before I'm done whispering. I'd rather not risk sending something to the wrong tab.

I just left a shortcut with a char who is no longer with mine. Person is not dead, just I left it there so my char will keep feeling the presence of other.
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

ObsessedWithCats wrote:My characters very rarely whisper, and until a couple of hours ago I didn't know it was possible to leave the shortcut there - I always closed it as soon as the conversation seemed to be over. I worry a lot about sending the wrong person a whisper or whispering when I mean to talk out loud, and closing them makes that less worrying.
I might leave a couple of sensible ones up now I know though, but I'd close them if the characters died.
Funny how things change - I now have at least one whisper shortcut for every one of my characters, in total two dead friends, seven town leaders and one likely-soon-to-be-dead former travelling companion. Only two of those (town leaders) have been used in the past year. Both the dead characters were ones whose deaths had large and lasting effects on my characters' lives, though one was only really a recent acquaintance by most people's standards.

Doesn't the toolbar get really cluttered with all those shortcuts?

None of them are to the point of touching the 'talk to all' or 'whisper' button - ten shortcuts between five characters and most first-name-only isn't all that much clutter.
There is some bias based on name length in which shortcuts I'll close - someone whose name has three letters is more likely to be kept in the shortcuts than someone with a title, given name and clan name/surname, even though they're both equally likely to be useful.

I never used to leave dead characters in the whisper shortcut, but three of my characters recently lost their loved ones and I have yet to close out their tabs. I may on two of.them eventually, but the one I probably never will,.as that death affected me not only through my character but as a player as well. It was a harsh and unexpected blow.

I just checked, and the one char of mine who lost a loved one still has her in the whisper shortcuts. I didn't consciously decide to leave her in there, but I can't really imagine deciding to close the tab in the future, either.

I generally don't leave many tabs open, whether the character is dead or alive. I keep open the ones of the characters that are most important to mine, but if they leave or die, generally I just close them right away. Not really sure why I haven't closed the two yet.

In my previous post I said I couldn't let them go but now I think I'm just keeping them around for company.

Yep. For me, it's almost a way of recording the people who've come into my character's lives in the past... and that includes the deceased.
