Hacking... the hobby of total losers.

Ignorance is certainly not any better...

Destructive and illegal hacking is indeed the hobby of losers, but to lump all into the same category as those asshats is ignorant. I am basing my career around hacking, countermeasures, and NetSec is general, and I sure as hell am not a loser.

I don't think he was talking about the hackers that work with security teams to find flaws and that sort of thing, I think he was talking about malicious hackers. People who's sole purpose in life is to hack into people's networks and destroy things. And I have to agree that people like that are total losers and should be stuck in a prison cell with a big Aryan Brotherhood member or some other such prison gang member and spend his sentence washing that person's underwear in the sink and cuddling up to him at night. They are worthless to society.

Well, I hope they actually get prosecuted this time and serve some time. Cyber crime goes unpunished far too much, especially for the small fish out there like Cantr or individuals. Sony got their hacker put in prison but I think they should take all cases more seriously. People like that disgust me.

Honestly, I'm more concerned about Cantr coming back up so I can get back to living my normal life instead of accomplishing nothing all day.

Me too =( I was actually falling asleep in Geography today because I had nothing to occupy myself and watching videos about erosion gets pretty damn boring if you don't even have something to glance at every few minutes...

There is, but then you get caught up in a terminology war over who is what, what is what, and so on. Think of it like in terms of musical genres having tons of sub-genres. In common mainstream terminology though, 'hackers' is pretty inclusive of anyone and everyone, good or bad.

Fortunately those are the stupid ones who get caught most of the time. Unfortunately, the worse of the bunch (cyber-crime groups, cyber-terrorists) are much more difficult to catch, or even prosecute if caught.

I'm concerned with this too. It's already been two days, I'm ready to get back to my characters. Stupid hacker.

I remember the last time this happened, I'd just started playing about a month before the last successful hacker attack, ended up taking the site down for 2-3 months. I'm glad this guy got caught and that all there is to do now is the after effect work of making sure everything is in working order. Looking at the sad animals reminds me of the Sarah Mclachlan aspca commercials...that I can't really watch. Thank you guys for all the hard work you do.

Actually it is very simple. Since the hacker is Polish he falls under Polish jurisdiction and laws. Those say:

In Polish law there are two charges possible:
1. Unauthorized access to data, which he obviously did.
2. Unauthorized data damage, alteration or deletion.

So clearly he committed a crime (actually at least two) and thus he is a a criminal hacker.

It has been stated already that there is no time frame. They are all working hard to fix the security issues and of course that takes time.
