The success of the clans could come from a lot of things, but it may go down to its tailismatic leaders!

I have to admit that the ones that don't respond to Crag's method of recruitment usually find Pauric's tactics a bit more their style. I don't know how he does it, but sometimes those Red Knights can recruit people even after a few clan members beat them down and drag them to meet Urza.
I have never met a McGregor and don't know their strengths. The Clans of the Forest have always believed that strength comes not from the sabre but from numbers. Homefield advantage is a huge factor in a battle. Clan members should have been trained to never leave the safety of the forest without a crowbar, but even then its difficult to break down doors in another groups home.
As for the Commonwealth, I don't mean to disappoint them, but I have never known they were a group in power anywhere. They don't sound all that hard to kill.

I have a highly-placed Mac Gregor and a man who's been an Olip Clansman for 11 years. I'd have to agree that the Olip Clans would kick the Mac Gregors' asses.
Actually, one of my Krif characters has a map made by a traveling Stonecutter...a visual map, no less. Who in Olip. has heard of the Mac Gregors?

Siom vs. Quillanoi: I'd go with Quillanoi, but then I'm biased. Dartel will fight to his last against an entire enemy army if need be to protect Samantha.
And Tadgh, Dartel, Alyssa together are pretty strong. With the other armed and active citizens and guardsman, Quillanoi can easily defend itself.
As for the clans, I have no experience there. But the Malinago Clan probably wouldn't stand a chance against any of them... yet.

i used to have a couple clan members in the olip area, and i also have a mac gregor
if the mac gregors had more members, i think they could take down the olip clans, but as it is now, the clans would slaughter them
and Siom could trounce Quill easily
P.S. The Maligano clan could be slaughtered by just about anyone

I don't know maybe because they are all insane theiving bastards with no honor what so ever!!!
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

Well, the Karnon Army seems to be made up of two factions that don't like each other very much.
There is the Imperial Guard and the Imperial Corps. Both seem to have quite a few members but lack weaponry and protection due to Karnon Forest mistrust of Karnon which comes before my time. But don't get me wrong. They have weaponry and some pretty good weapons. It just not every member of their two armies seem to have the best but they do seem to have quite a few numbers.
