clothes are good the way they are. every time something is made hard to get some one will complain about it and most jst shrug and get on with it. steel and rion are herder to make now but people still try to get them. just cause something is hard to make doesn't mean nobody will make it it just means people have to work together and quite possibly make a society from having to work together( horrible idea this in a society simulator  ) i think everything from getting food to making car's and houses should be harder to encourage more working and limit the number of char's that do everything by themselves.

That doesn't answer the poll question, which is really quite unrelated to the topic title. I personally don't find much use for clothing.

As for whether it's too hard, I would say no. Making something harder increases cooperation and makes it more valuable.

I DON'T THINK YOU PEOPLE ARE LISTENING. SO I'LL DO THIS IN CAPITAL LETTERS AND IN BOLD PRINT.

IT TAKES 10 PEOPLE MORE THAN 5 DAYS TO MAKE 1 ARTICLE OF CLOTHING. THAT IS TOTAL BULLSHIT AND I REALLY THINK THAT CLOTHES WILL SIMPLY NOT BE MADE BECAUSE IT IS JUST TOO DAMN HARD.

NOW I AGREE WITH MAKING THE IRON AND STEEL HARDER TO MAKE IT REALISTIC BUT THE CLOTHING IS NOT REALISTIC. AND DON'T GO OFF ON THAT CANTR ISN'T REALISTIC BULLSHIT BECAUSE IT IS TOTAL BULLSHIT. CANTR IS SUPPOSE TO RESEMBLE REAL LIFE AND THE CLOTHING SYSTEM DOES NOT RESEMBLE THAT AT ALL.

since when does it take 10 people more than 5 days to make an article of clothing?
it has never, ever, taken a single character of mine more than 8 days to make a piece of clothing...thats one person working on a complicated project...
if you dont like clothing so much...then dont make it..other characters have businesses using it, they dont have too much trouble, or they wouldnt have a business

My character took a while to make all the machines, and has since been on quite a roll gathering materials, making yarn, making cloth, and then making clothes.

Primitive fur bikinis take a few days to make, but if you want something like a leather jacket or a cotton dress, you have to go to the store, have someone make it for you.

The clothing system is fine how it is. It has no purpose except for the RP value of wanting to have interesting descriptions. Whats more important, iron shields or a nice top hat? All depends on the character.

It does now at least with silk.

Plus now it takes weeks to make a fur cloak for 1 person when it was like a few days.

I think someone upped the requirements and time for clothing in the past few days. I thought it was fine where it was originally.

I have a char, that is trying to make a business out of clothing. It takes some time to make the clothing but so far so good. I don't think it takes too long, I mean he's doing this him self and in one year he has cured leather and spun wool and made 4 articles of clothing from wool and 2 articles of clothing out of leather. Now he is planning on traveling through about 5 towns to get silk so that he can start making clothing of silk. I think this has been profitable so far and soon perhaps even more so, once he has a stock of clothing.

Oh, and the only reason it takes him so long at this point is because of how far he needs to go to get the salt to make leather, he doesn't care for the wool too much....very itchy

The problem is that there isn't going to be a clothing store in Cantr because no one will be able to make enough clothes to supply a store. It would take them Cantr decades to do it and would be far more costly than it would be worth one's time.

What about when weather is implemented?

And I think clothing serve a far more purpose than rp value.

And iron shields have an rp purpose as well. I don't understand why every player believes that all their character need a shield. A lot of my character don't have iron shields and only pick one up when they are expecting some fighting. That includes weapons too.

A lot of players rp styles are what they can do to keep their character alive the longest. I hate that style. Naturally your characters will want to survive but will all of them do this at the expense of their values and morals. I think players look more at what can be done to keep their character alive rather than what their character would do. I'm not saying all players do this but there seem to be quite a few that do.

Ealse Quathak only had an iron shield and weapon once. He picked them up during the fighting against Richard Cromwell and eventually killed Cromwell with the sword he picked up. Afterwards, he gave up the weapon and the shield to the Quillanoi Guard and vowed never to touch on again because he felt so hurt and broken after killing Cromwell and witnessing the bloodshed on that day. That is one reason why he left Quillanoi after the Robert incident because he felt responsible for the death and the attack of the citizens he swore to protect when he trusted Robert. He feels he broke that vow though he has still has of yet to touch a weapon or a shield again even though he has been offered one many time since Cromwell.

Clothes are being made.
I'll let the tailors speak for themselves but I interpeted what they did to those being high end clothes.

There has to be a market for a product. Certain products are too expensive like the ones you point to.

To put it into prespective your example is somewhere around 25% of the time to make a bike. And there are not any bike making businesses that I know of.

Its easy to make the simple clothes. Thats the entire point. The good quality silk stuff takes a lot longer. Thats how it should be! How long would it take you to make a silk shirt, IRL? How long to sew a few bits of fur together to make a loin cloth? Right then.

When my char ran out of the Lad Workshop a dozen workers were turning out a full set of hemp clothes every couple of days. If all the characters there were active I think we could have gotten it up to a set every day.
What about fur? A fur cloak is easy for a decent hunter to make in most places. Kill some racoons and other animals and do a bit of work.
@RKL: So what if clothing takes effort? It's not a necessity of life. It's a luxury. If you find it too much work, just don't make it.
