I'd be happy to try since I don't have 15 charries at the moment, but tell me - what exactly are we supposed to do as newbies? My first time around, I jumped in with a background story with all of my new charries...I don't see that much anymore. Um...how exactly are we supposed to be "newbie-ish"?

Thanks, Genevieve. The idea's to do the best you can to collect observations on what it's currently like to be a newspawn for our collective use later on. The most valuable observations would be what you feel like and what you're able to do with your character at each day.

Of course it's impossible to act totally new when we aren't, so it's not that important. You can just be yourself and play in your usual style, the point is that you try to make your observations here in the thread "as though" you were new to Cantr.

Nice idea, Cogliostro, you should be praised for caring so much about the future of Cantr (you're more proactive than marketing staff, from what I've seen). I'd participate if I still played.

Interestingly, this is suggested as something that should be done during the design phase of a game (rather than many years after launch) to flesh out design faults. If you set out to write out a day of playing your game and can't find anything to do, you do not have a game.

Wiro you need to see a shrink really have any normal chars? Sure as hell seems not.

Any ways Being a newspawn sucks no one gives a rats ass about you. Makeing you work for years for things that take half the time to make and even less time to get the supplies because everything is stockpiled.

Why does Wiro need to see a shrink? Because he has an ability to put unique depth into his characters? I didn't realize that made him shrink-worthy. Or have you forgotten, yet again, that you are not representative of your characters, and vice versa. Sounds that way.

(sorry for adding a flame to this good-idea-thread Cogliostro)

I personally think everyone who plays cantr needs a shrink.

Let's just not answer.

The goal to have a good newspawn is by being active and original. Even in "dead" towns it's possible. If you think about it, people aren't unactive on purpose. All they need is some waking up, some times it's hard but it is possible.
This might be our problem. Successful newspawns have to do the work, by that I mean RP, it's not the old characters or the town leaders that do it. And a new player should never have to do the work. That's it. We need to start caring more about our newspawns. Even if our character is a thief, doesn't mean we have to be aggressive with a just spawned guy. We could make him our apprentice. For a new player that would be a very good experience that would surely tight him up to this game for many years.

At least my characters tend to give people stuff in exchange for an amount of work that's equal to or less than what was needed to produce the items, resource collection included. Not counting travel times. Sure good towns tend to have everything stockpiled but somebody had to travel to get those resources unless they're local. If you give stuff away for free, soon there will be nothing left to give, or for example you'll be out of pants and tunics and left with a pile of hats, cloaks and all sorts of weird accessories. Or if you give everyone an iron shield, you'll be left with a stockpile of bone, wood and tortoiseshell shields that no one needs. Also if people get everything for free in the beginning, they have nothing left to work towards. A town that does a lot of charity will also require several people to produce new items for the newspawns and donate resources for it (either voluntarily or through taxes), otherwise the town will soon be broke.

Seko, that's not always true. One of my characters has managed to shape a town into one unit striving mostly for the same goal, and they all get crowbars, iron shields, steel battle axes and are allowed to use the town's resources when they want to make something for themselves (clothing, music instruments, things like that). They're with quite some people (15-20) and the system works.

I've decided against participating in this experiment. I have way too many characters already, and I won't have the self-control to let this one die.

Same, that and all my characters need a built quirk/whatever or they wont function. Without a steady built personality I CAN NOT PLAY, Cantr. It breaks down to "get stuff" and "do stuff" which Cantr "ain't good at".

That ain't no fun, which I think is the point of this rather pointless experiment.

If I played "like that" I'd want to hit the "imaginary X" DAYS before the 10 marker (Probably more like 4).

The experiment, for me, would be an utter flop wasted character space AND it would be the first character I let starve.

I have two new newspawns, both less that a year old. They've been said hello to but that's about it. It's not that they're really being ignored, the towns they're in are just populated by zombies.

If I was a real newbie I probably would have given up by now, but since I'm not I'm perfectly aware they're both pretty close to bigger, hopefully more interesting towns, and that despite what the laws say in this kind of situation no one really cares if you poke around in buildings and pick up a few tools or gather things you're not supposed to, as long as you're not too obvious about it.

In one case the complete lack of interaction has actually resulted in a more interesting character, as they're starting to develop a smoldering resentment for the people that seem to be ignoring their questions. No idea if they're the grudge carrying type at this point, but it might make things interesting further down the road.

My third newspawn I've decided to just let die, because seriously, screw being a much weaker than average, awkward hunter on Aki, and I don't want their shitty genes ruining things for the next char to spawn. (Also wow that place has changed, how is a three person town with hunting rules even possible there?)

Well I played like a newbie to the game and all my character has seen has been pain.

He's been attacked by at least 3 people, all unprovoked and was even threatened with death by a woman in charge of a town just because she felt like killing him.

Overall if I was a new person to this game and I wasn't interested in fighting, I would be like THIS GAME SUCKS.

On the contrary however, I am quite interested in violence and that is why I still play this game.
