This thread really belongs in Suggestions. . .
Anyway, I think a more realistic animal system would fix this. The only reason that exponential growth doesn't lead to trillions of racoons in the real world is that there are limiting factors, which Cantr has none of (aside from people who hunt animals). If animals had to have food to live, the animal population would be limited. Carnivorous animals would eat other animals. I'm not sure what to do with herbivores. Perhaps we could make grass a resource. Some would automatically appear on the ground every turn, and the animals would be able to eat that. Animals that don't have enough food to eat would lose health and eventually die. Reproduction might be tied into this somehow. People could harvest grass or get meat and drop it on the ground to feed the animals.
This would be a good way to build up to domestication of animals. It would also keep animal populations within limits. The only problem is that it would probably take a lot of work to implement. It would probably require that animals be handled as individual beings. This would, by the way, also make the animal combat system more fair.

I agree...
...with Sho...
If the animals are going to breed then there needs to be some sort of hierarchy. It doesn't have to be as complex as the real world but it would be good if the animals had some order - so a squirrel couldn't eat a fox - but just a basic "This animal is bigger than all animals lower on the scale and naturally eats animals" (so herbivores don't start eating other animals)
Another idea would be to set a survivable threshold - either base it on how many animals could feesably survive in one place and perhaps tie it in to resources available in the location.
just a couple of scattered thoughts...

The animals seem to multiply every turn. In sil we now got 71 cows. Each turn this number grows. I mean it's getting a bit to much! Soon the whole city is being taken over by cows! I liked the animal boom, but now it's getting to much.
It's him.... The Anomaly...Do we proceed?..Yes.... He is still......only human.

I once got attacked by a rhino for no reason, and when I went to another city, i was killed by an angry group of elephants who attacked me twice the moment I arrived so I immediatly died. That was not a pretty face I tell you.
