One thing that would totally sell me on your monitor (other than a Mac version) would be if you could exclude certain characters from tripping the monitor. Say, if you have workers that you don't want to check so much, but have an active character that you do want to check, you could exclude all the workers so only the one you want sets off the monitor. I would find that very useful, and it would help my RL productivity a lot.

Excellent idea. I shall do that right away.

CantrSpy 0.7

Postby joo » Tue Feb 03, 2009 11:50 am

Well it looks like I'm going to go to sleep soon, so let me upload what I've do so far.

ZIP - http://mediafire.com/?0jwn2u2bmmz
RAR - http://mediafire.com/?zgnnbdl4yij

(Now obsolete due to errors - please download the latest version below.)

New/changed features:
  • You can now choose to ignore any character(s) whom you do not wish to light up the icon when they have new events.
  • Made some further changes to text, removing some unnccesary phrases to make more room for important information.
  • Added tooltips to graphical buttons.
  • Clicking the "open player page" button now also minimises the application.
  • The RETURN key now logs you in instead of moving back to the Player ID field when pressed in the Password field.

The ignore functionality works like so: to ignore a character, you must click on their name in the list to select them. Once they are highlighted, you can click the "ignore" button in the lower right corner. Once this has been done, their name will turn a shade of green to show that they are ignored. In addition, they will stay in the list even if they have no new events, but will appear black. This is so that any ignored character can be unignored. To unignore a character, select their name, and the ignore button will change to an unignore button. Click this, and they will return to normal. If they have no new events, they will disappear from the list.

Your ignored characters will always be remembered after CantrSpy closes, so be careful not to forget about a character who you have ignored. (In future I may change this, but for now this is the simplest way to do it).

More changes to come.

CantrSpy 0.71

Postby joo » Wed Feb 04, 2009 12:29 am

Here is CantrSpy 0.71 - it addresses an issue with the user interface that might be encountered when scrolling a long list of characters in the console field.

CantrSpy 0.8

Postby joo » Fri Feb 06, 2009 8:23 pm

I wasn't planning on releasing this version yet until I'd added more features, but I discovered a few bugs so I thought I'd post this here for those who are affected by them.

RAR - http://www.mediafire.com/?jdywgj1kyaz
ZIP - http://www.mediafire.com/?tbzwzyjzyny

Edit: Good to download now (I think :)).

New features:
  • Added a checkbox to automatically launch the application on Windows startup. Note that if you use this, you should remove any shortcuts you have put in your startup folder as this could two instances to run at once (this would only happen if the two programs were different versions of CantrSpy, but I still recommend removing any other startup shortcuts).
  • If the ignore button is clicked with no character name selected (you can deselect the currently selected name by clicking on a blank space in the field) a dialog will appear prompting you to type in the name of a character to ignore. This is not case sensitive but otherwise has to be identical to the name of character you wish to ignore.
  • Two or three miscellaneous interface bugs were fixed.
  • Edit: Fixed a potentially serious bug with character encoding and the Windows registry.

Somebody requested that I add an option to set a time limit on a character being ignored, but I am unsure what format to use for the time. Should it be in game hours, game days, real life hours... if anybody has feedback on this, I would find it useful.

As always please report any bugs which are encountered to me.

Dudel made the suggestion and shall take credit for it as its a good suggestion. Also I like RL hours myself as sometimes I forget what the time IG is compared to RL.

CantrSpy 0.8

Postby joo » Sat Feb 07, 2009 3:16 am

Well the term "joo fail" has never been more appropriate. Hopefully, though, nobody else has been affected by the errors, and they should be fixed now (although I have not really tested the latest version enough to be sure).

You can download version 0.8 above.

CantrSpy 0.9

Postby joo » Sun Feb 15, 2009 4:23 am

I was planning to add Dudel's requested feature before making this release, but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet, so I though some people might find this useful.

CantrSpy-0.90.zip - http://www.mediafire.com/?yjhvhmd1htn
CantrSpy-0.90.rar - http://www.mediafire.com/?nmyzyitmo5i

Changes:
  • By request from Rebma, there is now a checkbox, which by default is checked, that determines whether the application automatically minimises when logging in or opening the player page. This can be unchecked to "pin" the window on the screen should you wish to keep it open. This setting is kept in the registry, so will be remembered between sessions.
  • There is now a separate button and checkbox for ignoring characters. The checkbox is used to ignore or unignore characters who exist in the list, and the button can be used to specify an arbitrary name. This is just to prepare for the timeout feature, so there is no change in the actual functionality besides this.
  • Fixed a bug involving the run on startup feature being erroneously disabled due to a shockwave player error.
  • Fixed a script error that could occur when the character list is refreshed.

Thanks, this is very nice. Had meant to try it for a long time, a couple hours ago I finally did. The ignore is a very good option, even though I haven't used it yet. But I did want such a feature at times (bouts of whispering or people runnnig around). All I ask now is the option to have a small sound, a 'click' like cantrmonitor does. When the game is slow and I'm semi-afk it's useful to have a little sound.

The options 'once only' making a single noise, then shutting up until you've checked a char (so say you have 6 chars lit up, you check one char, it sees it go down to 5, then when a new 6th char lights up you get a sound).
'one per char', making a new click for each additional char that gets an event.
And finally 'always' behaving like cantrmonitor does now, one sound per update with events (drives me nuts, but someone might find it useful, especially with heavy use of ignore).
"I'll start with who, what, where, and when, followed by whither, whether, wherefore and whence, and follow that up with a big side-order of 'why'." -- Zaphod Beeblebrox

Does this mean that Cantrspy users can currently see into the game?
If so, can you tell us if the game is still running (movement, production, etc.) or is it frozen?

I think ticks are still running because I had a couple characters light up at project and travel tick times.

It doesn't work for me...

Maybe Jos enabled the game temporarily to test it and you had CantrSpy open at that time...

Yeah, Cantrspy worked even a bit after that the Cantr Indexpage was gone. Or maby it only clinged on to the info for a few minutes more before loosing conection to Cantr..?

It could have kept the appearance of being connected up to 1.5 minutes after the server went down (because it only queries the server that frequently).

Alternatively, the index page might have been disabled, but the script responsible for providing information to Monitor clients might still have been enabled.
