)...I just played the chars as their personalities dictated, ended up with them arguing and one of them left...which worked out well!

Well, if they were dragging a living person to jail then the person might have awaken and gotten away if someone wasn't using two characters to drag them. Or if a corpse was being dragged and it happened to be someone who wasn't meant to be buried, for example an important person in a crypt or a murder victim that should've been investigated. There would be more chance for intervention if two characters of the same player weren't cooperating.
