When you're a little bit too handy with the old crossbow, and kill yourself in one shot when you think it would take two... and you forgot to check the notes you're dropping, or leave the reason in one. I was even planning a rather elaborate suicide in the harbour. *sighs* Oh well.

Spawning in a location you've spawned in several times before and having to try all over again, knowing that your character is most likely doomed to a life of sleepiness or at least a few years worth.

Having someone spawn in a primitive island town with dangerous animals and - without even bothering to speak - just wanders off to face the wild naked and unequipped. But then again.. if they're trying to replicate "Naked and Afraid"... so be it. I guess that's their lot in life. But chances are we're just going to end up having to bury their animal-slain corpse next time we're out-and-about doing a resource run to wherever the poor chap ends up dying. Because - let's face it - this island is not kind to unequipped newspawns.

I've been here but I have also been incredibly surprised at how the second character turned out simply because they had a different attitude and personality. Sometimes I guess it depends on what sort of mood the other charries are in when you spawn. IE I had one that hated a town because it was so sleepy. The new one is thrilled to be able to help out and take care of what they can while the leaders are in prolonged sleeping spells.

I admit I have done this a few times in the past. I rather enjoy it. Its a challenge trying to gather enough healing food before the elephants finish you off bujt you are right they don't live too long and if you do it too much you end up with a couple of locked character slots. I'm sure I will eventually do it again. Head into the wild with just a bone knife lol.

Oh and I am not one of thoses that spawns and leaves. I will always give a town a couple of days if not longer to see if I like it

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
When your character's so-called "friends" skip town while he's having a years-long mental breakdown, without saying goodbye, and take their keys with them, after he gave them their house out of the kindness of his heart and they promised to work it off, and said they cared about him like he was family. So now after narrowly surviving an attempted suicide, once said character realizes his "friends" aren't in town anymore, he will have to break in and change all the locks on the houses of his ungrateful "friends" who ask for a house and then leave a year afterwards. It's like no one believes in handing keys back even when they have no intention of returning, just WHY? If you're gonna leave, stop asking for houses and jobs and responsibilities! Or at least have the decency to return the house to the town instead of leaving them keyless while you traipse off somewhere else with no plans of returning. After putting your stupid name on the house, a house which had belonged to someone's loved one and wasn't really supposed to be sold in the first place, but you suckered it out of us. Why do people do that? It's like they're just trying to hurt the town they spawned in, totally ungrateful, selfish, only caring about themselves and their own immediate goals.

That was quite the rant! Not that I really blame you, though. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the characters neglect their friends, or if it's just the players forgetting they were there.. And then it can be hard to find an appropriate reaction, other than annoyance.

I think people just play too many characters in general, causing them to have very little depth and making it easy as player to overlook dozens of great possibilities.

I don't know, I mean I have 13 characters, and more than half of them have very boring sleepy lives, but I still wouldn't have them just walk off without saying goodbye to someone they claimed was family to them, or abandon an entire house someone gave them and not return the keys, or any tools borrowed or anything. There's a difference between having an inactive character you don't pay attention to who sleeps and doesn't notice things around them, or a newspawn who isn't attached to anyone just wandering off, and your extremely active, personable character with all kinds of plans and goals, just walking off out of the blue with no goodbye and taking keys to a house someone else could be using, that they practically BEGGED for, because the town bores you as a player. I'm sick of seeing everyone pulling this "This town is great, we wanna run a business here, can we have a house? Can we make some weapons? You people are the best! You're like a father to me! We'll make this town a better place! *stays inside for like a year and then walks off down the road because player is bored of this town but doesn't want to explain why character doesn't like it anymore and is suddenly a detached robot who doesn't say goodbye to their friends when earlier they were begging said friends not to give up on life*". That's just ridiculous.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
I've never seen this happen, so I can't really relate (sorry
) but I'd have to wonder how you know your friend was bored with the town and how you know he/she isn't coming back. Leaving with keys tells me he probably intends to return and might wonder why the house was broken into while traveling. Or maybe I'm just looking at it too naively?
My own thing for this thread is really more of a frustration, but I'm not sure that's the right word either. It's not annoying or puzzling, but still gives me trouble. I have a character who accidentally wandered far from home in a ship and discovered a great place to live. They lived there for several years with no visitors, then suddenly people of two different language groups arrived. These language groups are not the language of the area either. Only one person in town actually speaks the language of the area. All of these new citizens are great people so my character is happy to have them living there, even though no one understands very much of what anyone else is saying.
They all work at interpreting and it's a lot of fun. The frustration lies in the fact that now newspawns are popping into existence fairly often and NONE of them speak my character's language, even a little bit. So, my character is constantly having to rp flip through dictionaries just to understand the people who now make up the majority of his/her own town. A couple of the long term residents do speak a little of what the newspawns are speaking, but not enough to make it much easier for my character. And, I can't find an English dictionary to offer them either. If they weren't so nice, and so much fun, my character might be annoyed because the newspawns make no effort to learn my character's language in return, but as it stands right now it's just a big challenge my character is enjoying and I'm trying to work out.

Sorry to say, you've lost your town. It's only going to get harder. Eventually, they'll start wondering why someone that doesn't speak their language is running the town, and you'll be ousted, or they'll make the irrational descision to all leave (which would be good for you, but it would be unrealistic).

Rude strangers who speed through your town only to jump out of their vehicle, kill all your game animals when you're in need of animal parts and have been trying to hunt them, then drop everything they don't need and take what you do need and make a big mess even if your town has litter laws, and take off without a word. Just why?
