It could also mean that the person is playing on a phone, and therefore doesn't really have time/desire to type out too much.

Yes, typing with phone is annyoing and a lot of time goes to correcting spelling mistakes...
I am also one with blank descriptions... I have poor imagination and I have seen so many great descritpions with people that if I put short description I feel kind of dumb and blank just feels better than putting some short one.

If you really struggle, there are some random character description generators online. You could always use these for inspiration and then edit them to suit your need.

Foreign guests in town not adapting their emotes so I can't understand what they're doing

Hmm, I've considered sticking emotes into a translator when English isn't the primary language of a town my characters visiting, but I figure it's probably easier for others if they've got the original English to look at as well as whatever the translator mangles it to because generally their English is better than my anything else. I might emote in both languages from now on though I guess.

I think usually (at least for me) sticking to English is not too bad, as most people indeed will know...
But if your Spanish char comes into a Dutch town, and all Dutch people are nice and start emoting in English so the Spanish will understand, it seems common courtesy to return that favour, no?

Dutch trolling at its finest?

Joking aside, I know that as a player, I appreciate it when the foreign speaking characters come to the English areas and will use English emotes. And look...it isn't hard to return the favor...http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Int_emotes
I know I have used that guide when my characters were found in non English areas that had those who do not speak English. It would typically be in the style of */*ENGLISHVERSION/NONENGLISHVERSION*/* emoting style so that it wouldn't get confused.

Just curious what the alternative would be.

I do the same thing as Cdls usually (except I don't use that wiki page... I really should lol). Except it usually goes something more like this:
*CHARACTER'S NATIVE LANGUAGE/NON-NATIVE LANGUAGE*
So for my Spanish character, if s/he's in an English zone, it comes out:
*SPANISH/ENGLISH*
unless s/he's not with other Spanish characters. Then I'll probably just use English no matter what.
And since I'm all but useless at every other language, that's the way it goes in every other language zone too.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
It's no secret that I've lost about 80% of my interest in Cantr. I had attributed that to the fact that I've been playing over 10 years and the game has lost it's appeal, but after reading these posts about character descriptions and one-line replies, I think it might have something to do, in some part, with the possibility that the game isn't the game I fell in love with anymore. More and more, I read rants and complaints about things or behaviors that describe me to some extent, so it's little wonder I'm not enjoying the game anymore. The player base has evolved, and as such the player's exptectations have evolved, and I've stood in place. Only two characters away from retirement.

Re: Things that annoy or puzzle you about Cantr
Last week I was on vacation, so I didn't have as much time to play. Then this week I haven't had any work, so suddenly there's been too much time to play. I get irritated that enough stuff isn't happening. And I have 15 characters.

Doug, I know what you mean, I think, since I see myself described in this thread, too. I don't think our type of player is as rare as it seems, though. I come across many characters who drive the Cantr story more with dialogue and situation than writing style. I've seen these grand emotes, and they do impress me, when I bother to read them properly. (usually they have nothing to do with me, so I'm just eavesdropping in the event log.) But just as much can be said with a well-chosen line of dialogue, and maybe a subtle facial expression when needed, for those that are willing to picture it.
For me, I have characters that either don't communicate physically all that much, or do so in a way that's rather obvious... Like, to have a youthful, energetic character grin at every sentence, and move from place to place with a bounce in her step every time I enter or exit a building doesn't seem necessary.
I've met at least one of your characters, Doug, (I'm 98% sure) and its personality shines through very clearly just through choice of dialogue, and what actions are taken. I will admit, though, that I've never stuck with one web community or activity for as long as 10 years... I think 5 years is my limit before my attention drifts away. I can understand why yours might too, even if I don't like it.
