This.

I can appreciate a player wanting change for their chars and if that's what it will take for you to keep an interest in the game then go for it. Have some courtesy to other players and RP a lead up to it. Don't just out of the blue shift gears on everyone around your char.

I have seen this happen and it ruined so many characters' storylines and lives. I was annoyed but will get over it fairly quick.

Yeah, I can understand that. This is a game that's basically collaborative storytelling, and half way through the other teller just decided he wasn't interested in telling that story anymore? It'd be disappointing.

I don't want to upset anyone or criticize the way they play the game. I've touched on this before and normally I wouldnt bring it up but mostly I'm just curious if others feel the same as I do or if I am just the oddball in the game.

I'm referencing what I call excessive RP. Examples:

1. When a character emote every single action they make. Long drawn out paragraphs detailing anything remotely involved with their action to the point where I'm wondering why they dont take time to point out that their character is breathing.
2. Disabilities. Mental and physical. I've tried this in the past. I see the desire to do it, but it doesnt interest me and when it dominates the gameplay of others I just tend to ignore it and them.
3. Excessive reactions to weather and animals attacks.
4. Manufactured drama. I like a lot of the drama caused in game by evil/bad characters. Pirates and thieves and the like, but when its done just for the sake of stirring up trouble because the character has the maturity of a twelve year old then I'll just pass.

The more I play the more the worse I'm getting RP wise. I just want my characters to be able to do something productive. With or without payment from their town leaders or work on their own. Nothing annoys me more than having a character that just works on projects that are useless. Those that don't benefit the town or in the process of making something that is needed. If you have a million grams of iron locked up I dont want to be awkwardly crushing hematite just because there's nothing else to do.

Again I can't stress enough that I'm not trying to tell others how to play the game. Please don't spam me with hate. I'm just wondering if I'm in a very select few that feels this way about the game and maybe explain a bit why some of my characters are just robot workers that don't RP except when necessary.

I'm about to kill off a few of what I consider my major characters, just to get away from these situations. It will create more drama for them to just leave town so I feel its easier just to kill them off start over hopefully with characters that I can enjoy playing the game how I like.

I agree with you to some extent on some points there.

I've not seen anyone do 1 to an extent that it bothers me, but I can imagine why detailed RPing of everything might get annoying. I guess people do that when they're bored though? 2 varies for me - I don't have any disabled characters, and I've quite liked the RP of some characters' disabilities, but the frequency with which one of my characters encounters others with some kind of speech disorder or muteness is ridiculous. I disagree with you on 3 - there's not much point having weather if you're not going to RP reactions to it and I think it's realistic to react to a injury, especially a serious one. I probably agree with you on 4, though I'm not sure we'd draw the line at exactly the same point. I don't mind a bit of drama if it makes sense in context but if it's out of the blue or not 'right' for the character causing it that would bother me.

I've noticed some hostility against characters who can't speak properly, and some of my characters have expressed it themselves. I wonder if this is in line with real life attitudes or if Cantrians are more likely to express hostility towards handicapped people. In real life basically only immature teenagers would call someone a retard but I think it's more common in Cantr.

I can relate on this at some point, I will admit. I am one of those who emote everything. The simple fact is this. When you are doing short RP, there is a lot open to interpretation. What I see my characters do in my mind, fits just right, so I RP exactly what it is, regardless if it's one sentence, or eight. I'm not about to have other characters decide what mine are doing, and I want to put the idea in their mind -exactly- what my character is doing. If anything irritates me, it's the lack of RP. This is an RPG. Someone emotes a simple thing for a complicated situation, and then I end up asking questions: "where are they standing, what are they doing, which way are they facing" And yes, they become irritated with me. It is not my fault that I want to make things clear on how my character should proceed and all they want to do is the giggidy giggidy. To be honest, no amount of hate could change my mind about it either. There have been countless times where I have become bored just because of the lack of RP. The last thing I want is a misunderstanding when someone emotes a simple action and they expect me to get the entire situation in their heads, usually ending up with (ooc: No my character is doing this, or that...Pay attention) When they are the ones that made it skewed in the first place, leaving it open.

I have seen that too, but not against people with speaking problems but against those who pretends to be children.

I think characters should grow up eventually, but early thirties it should still be acceptable to play a child. In your forties and fifties, not so much. I wish people would act their age with a possible minus 10 to 15 years. Of course once you reach your sixties, you can start treating your characters as something like an elf in the way that they don't age like humans.

Yeah, I'm exactly the same way. I find myself, for every phrase, wanting to make a little .gif of what my char is doing with their body, just to clarifiy. Instead I emote. Most of the time, I wouldn't consider it excessive, but sometimes, there's nobody awake, and I just create -huge- emotes. Huge.

I hope you don't mean legitimately handicapped characters should magically grow out of it at a certain point.. if people started doing that, I couldn't take the players seriously. I actually don't play most of my characters who aren't disabled. I broke one of my characters' back to make him disabled because he was boring, now he's fun, so I have nothing against disabilities, I wouldn't play cantr if you all started playing perfect, healthy characters... in fact I would rather take ALL the disabled and baby-talk characters, over any ONE of the sex-crazed, violent, drama-queen, or irritating newspawn thief characters that you all think are so fun to play... now THOSE are annoying...

Also, I don't take people seriously if they ALWAYS ignore weather and animals, it's unrealistic and seems like they're the type who refuses to RP anything without prompting or reason, which bores me and turns me off from their character. You can't just have a chunk of flesh ripped off you by a lion and not react, that is soooo boring and annoying to me, I HATE when people do that, it's anticlamatic, AND you just basically shot down a perfect opportunity for RP and then I have to wait for something else to RP about. Especially if it's my character injured, and others choose to ignore it, it makes me really irritated at the players for being what I can only assume is lazy, because if some girl was in town flirting with every man there, they'll all respond, but if a bear bites my arm off, it's too boring for the other players, it makes cantr really dull and irritating, like you can't take 30 seconds to say "Ow that thing bit me, it hurts!" To make your character a real person and not the Terminator? Please...

If a character is disabled then they shouldn't magically get better, but if someone is a child then it's normal for them to mature.

I love your emotes. I don't find them annoying at all. In fact, their depth is quite often astounding to me. You would be an example of a paragraph emoter whom I enjoy.

As I've mentioned earlier though, there are certainly paragraph emoters that annoy the crap out of me. Especially the ones that get haughty when you don't give them the attention they are clearly seeking by their actions.
