Yeah, the polearm doesn't work well with dogs since they are so low to the ground. Hmmm. A driver. I need to go the the golf store and get a used driver. Maybe a wedge to get some good air on the things.

Anyone ever tried making a penguin fly?

Only joking, Jos. Tux doesnt deserve that. Yet.

I thought the original idea of the hook on a halberd/polearm was to pull an armoured horseman off his horse...

Personally, I would like either a nice 10' pike, or a nice sword.

Though I think the most dangerous thing in the house is either a very sharp kitchen knife, the cat, or my dad's music collection...

I didn't describe it well.

The claw is not a hook with the talons curled up.

The talons are pointed out as if around a golf ball. The grab position of a bird of prey.

Your probally right about the hook thing for a military polearm. But this device was not meant to go up against a mount. It's a household weapon meant for intruders. Specifically from a position of hiding around a corner and waiting for them to walk by. Clonk.

Ah, I see your point. And polearm type weapons vary wildly anyway. I was describing the traditional infantry pike used against armoured mounted knights...

A polearm at its simplest is an axe tied to a broomhandle!
