If it's not up by 2011, I'd be very surprised. As for updates, play testing continues slowly in the test environment, finding bug after bug after bug created by the security changes. There are still several original, major issues (like ajax not working on the build menus) that have yet to be addressed. The last I knew (last week) Echoman was about 1/3 of the way through scrubbing all of the game's (hundreds of) files.

True, the ajax menus could be disabled until they get fixed, so I don't really see them as a blocker for reopening the game.

Right.. After all this time, I simply had to make a forum account for this :')

Of course I am still here!

Though, to be honest, I definitely won't mind a full restart if we really find ourselves scavenging ghost towns..

Can well remember the joy when finding a fellow human being after having searched through three different bewildered places.. Armed with but a simple club. Without having to make a boat to actually -search- for those still places, that is.

The last few months of Cantr, I found myself troubled setting lifetime goals. Woah... noticed the amount of workers in some of the smithies out there? Simply making some coin to, well.. Buy a weapon, then build a vehicle to travel around with to find different resources and a nice place to settle down..?
This is most likely because of all the crowdedness. 'Cause of tens of others having the same in mind, without leaders capable to personally contact every single one of 'em. Man... making me feel like I'm playing a couple of machines, rather than actual (imaginations of) people.

Don't get me wrong, there's still the occasional luck to get spawned somewhere far out from the big cities.. And of course, allowing time, there's still opportunities to make a decent name for yourself, even in one of them. But it feels like the Cantr world has turned into some strange place where most people only care about obtaining. Whether it's materials, relationships or anything else within reach. Ah! Almost makes me feel like I'm living real life or instead of the old Cantr days!

Do we just need to remind ourselves how to play a role playing game (life) here? Or has the current stable Cantr world simply come to an end, highlited by complaints and attacking materialistic hackers?

Peace! :o

I admit, I'm guilty on focusing a lot on materials within Cantr, as well as some cultural type stuff, but I use my focus on materials and creating stuff as a medium for roleplay. For me, it adds emotion and realism, because it's really there (virtually) and I can wrap my mind around it.

Any one read the Dune books? Well ok in one of the last ones a guy made space travel hard to do and rare the Tech was there but he just stopped it from happening for the average person. Then he died. Shortly after there was an explosion of travel he forsaw hence the stopping people because he saw the need to making it a new thing and every one wanted to do it. Maybe thats what cantr needs new places to go. Or at least more people who have not seen the whole place because I am sure if you have played this game for 5 years you have been pretty much everyplace there is to go. Or at least anyplace interesting and new enough to you to go.

That will help the Cultural part. Myself I am looking forward to seeing the whole world.

That isn't true, actually. There are tons of islands and places that both are and aren't populated, at least if you include other languages areas. I've pretty much been around the four main English islands, but you can't be everywhere at once, and places change dramatically over time. Plus, there are many explorers going around to different places.
It's been considered restarting Cantr, at least if a Cantr III is made, but I think we would lose a lot of history, which makes the game more interesting. Plus, many people would probably leave if that happened.
We do need more people though.
