I just know that my character and her fiancee have enjoyed many a sunset and sunrise in quiet conversation.

Also bad since you're making up something that everyone ought to see if anyone does, and it is clear that not everyone does.

But I do see it, except just a little differently. You go to sleep sometime round the end of hour 2 and wake up very very fast again to greet the new day in hour three, feeling much less tired. Clearly you've had a good night's sleep! :)

Tip for hunters. Always hunt in the morning if possible!

Since whether there's a sun or not has no relevence on the game play or mechanics of the game, I find it highly illogical that a sun cult would develop. A carrot cult, maybe.

But yes, I assume there's a sun, although I don't often refer to it. Perhaps cantr has beaten the real world in terms of the first 24-hour society?

You have obviously never been out with me and my friends of a day and night

I think we can assume we have light and dark, but it's too fiddly to try and say when, because Cantr is indeed international, and seeing as it has no bearing on the game, why impose darkness on one group of players, or another, when it goes against their time zones?

I've always pictured Cantr as being flat, though I guess the only way to find out is to sail in a straight line and see if you wind up back at the continent you started on.

A flat world would mean it was daylight all the time, which is also something I generally assume. At any rate, if there is a night it obviously doesn't get dark enough to hamper visibility very much.

I reckon Cantr is a universe in itself... Cantr istelf is an infinite expanse - if you sail beyond the limits the New Lands Department have got to - you are exiled into a great, infinite expanse of Cantr sea...

It is also infinite in the vertical - but only from the sky downwards - there is infinite ground, in order for there to be an infinite amount of available resources to dig (has anyone considered the scars that there must be in the Cantr landscape from digging?) but the limit is the sky...

There is no sun in the sky - as there is no space beyond, instead, there are light emiting particles in the Cantr sky - but light in Cantr is unlike light as we know it - it is purely a radiation - one to which stone is obstacle...

That is very invalid with respect to the international character of cantr players and the behavior of time zones...

I have always just roleplayed under the assumption that all Cantrians slip in and out of comas daily, awaking only ever so often to do something, and then slipping again back into comatic state.

Now that we are operating on a 24 hr. clock, instead of 25, I agree with Missy, in so far as my chars, when appropriate, deem early hours morning, late hours night. This is not something I often refer to, though, but you learn which other chars do that you associate with, and it's all good.

Same goes for the sun. Not many of my chars refer to it, but some do. And with all types of roleplay, you learn which chars yours associate with are condusive to this type of rp, and once again, all is good.

Perhaps in Cantr reality and the laws of physics are inconsistant and can be perceived differently from person to person but still they are similar enough that everyone can interact. I can think of many instances where this would explain a lot.

Also, I often suspect this is true in rl. :D

I've long maintained that even the laws of physics are subjective...

Lunch!

Postby Thomcat » Thu Apr 28, 2005 7:48 pm

Related to the question of the sun is the meal. One meal, daily. It's pretty close to a "mid-day" meal, so calling it lunch is appropriate, but it's afternoon tea on the east coast of North America and dinner in Europe.

Hmmm... if the "sun" is added to the game, then you could make theft easier at night, etc. And of course the time of "sunset" would vary based on the curvature of the globe... ahem, there's a whiteboard somewhere I have to go scribble on. Be seeing you!
