Cantr interface guide - could someone do me a favour?

Postby formerly known as hf » Tue Dec 07, 2004 8:29 pm

I've just started writing a short guide to the Cantr interface - how to start projects, talk to and name people etc...

This is after there have been a few topics from confused new players - and I still remember being in the same position...

I want to add a section of sailing and on driving a vehicle - but none of my characters have ever been on a boat or other vehicle - let alone driven it

Could some one e-mail me a screenshot and a quick description and I'll add it in?

Do I send this to the Players Dept. once it's done?

Cheers :)

Boats have to be figured out in game, at least that is the current PD standpoint.
Personally, I find this to be unfair, because I will always know how to properly operate a boat, because I have been playing long enough. I know roughly what it takes to create steel, iron, and how to acquire a sabre or iron shield. I think since so much of this is common knowledge among us players who have been playing for a while, it would only be fair to tell all of this to new players. Some people may actually go through the process of learning IC how to create steel, but most don't, and I don't think anyone has been "caught" making steel without "knowing" how, and I think if they were caught, nothing would be done. This is an unfair advantage, and it is not plausable to have the PD monitor every time someone steers a boat or smelts a batch of steel.

This would have to be approved by the GAC before it is published, so you should send it to gac@cantr.net. It might not hurt to cc it to players@cantr.net as well, in case there's discussion needed.

I commend you for taking the initiate on this, farmer. I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated by all new players, whatever info is approved for publication.

I second Nick on that and that navigation of boats cannot be added as that is an in game thing. Navigation should be taught and learned in game.

Fair enough... Makes sense when thinking about it - I've tried to keep in mind what things could be included, and what should really be worked out in game...

On another note - has anyone thought about changing the icons for dragging/knocking - at the moment they're the same for 'use' - just a thought...

Are you sure?

I had to send me FAQ to the GAC for approval, and it explained sailing and navigation explainations. The main point being that north is right, THAT -should- be explained, because it's unfair with there being no north arrow to show you that.

I always thought that navigation is something character's should learn in game. Maybe telling them that the directions are messed aorund is all right but how to navigate should be learned in game. And it's not that hard to figure out anyways.
