Reminisce

Postby viktor » Sat Dec 19, 2015 6:36 pm

Playin cantr and listening to things over the radio and seeing the world through 15 different perspectives at a time...
I started to reminisce and think about the years I've played, more than 10 years I've played cantr, I remember when I first started day 782 not knowing wft I was doing and eventually learned to do everything from sleep to forge nations, from instigating wars to preventing them, thieving to hunting criminals, creating different organizations, building what I want from a large selection, and of course, a huge range of roleplay. Remembering some of my old characters and seeing the changes in the world, from regions that were restlessly bustling to empty spaces and how once empty islands have sprung to life and once densely populated places have thinned out to making some towns into personal estates. Cantr is such an ever evolving world that it is impossible to know what will be 10 more years from now.
wishing some of my old chars were still around, to see where they would be now if they would have stood the test of time like some I meet who are on the approach to 300 years old. I've played over the years to a neverending variety of challenges to chose from, like a pick your own adventure style book only better because you can't cheat by going to the previous page and picking a different option.

Yes! I have a huge gap in the game world between the first time I played and this time, but feel the same way.

I love how much history is lost. For example, neither Pok nor Pok Desert West seem to have any texts documenting the early relationship between those two places. You ungrateful prats, we walked for real life months through the blistering heat to make PDW a reality.

I like how the histories that do exist describe great events and people, but don't mention that many of those epic leaders, and pretty much everyone else, went their whole life with little or no clothing. And nobody noticed, because who has time for clothing? Or that most of those famous people went their whole life without any sort of vehicle. Sure, every several years someone might travel through on a state of the art tandem bike :D

Or, how about having to clutch a note in your hand and walk it to the next town to give it to the receiver? Now we complain about the annoying radio. You kids shut up and get off my lawn.

I like that Teregotha is a peaceful place where a character can, you know, not die. I haven't seen any historical works there that describe when that place was like, "Hi! My name is-" "Nobody cares about your name. You won't live long enough to use it. Just run". Life was all about wondering if you were going to die first from a weapon or first from starvation. Now it's like a beach resort island

It is sad that we don't see animals moving around anymore. It always liked that my old char, Kindle MacGregor (sister to Gregor MacGregor and spiritual leader of the clan who always communed with wolves) would show up somewhere with several wolves following her. Good times.

I remember when there was still an old iron mining project left over from when iron could be mined from the ground. I was a newbie and the locals let me participate and take some of the spoils.

I remember when not all of Cantr island was mapped yet. When salt was considered a rarity.

I remember when lions were actually dangerous and there were so many that you had to stay inside to avoid being mauled.

And not everyone on Treefeather had a map of Treefeather.

Some towns had really old people, that were in their 40's. And your mind was blown if you saw someone in their 50's.

Steel could once be mined directly from the ground, until the resource was nerfed to only iron.

I've never heard of steel coming from the ground. I started in the early 800's, soon after the iron change.

It think steel from the ground ended in the 200s or there about. Maybe even the 100s?

I remember when you could just kill people who were in your way, for pretty much anything. I killed someone early on this time around, and the player flipped out OOCly and then I read in the forums that it's not cool to just kill people anymore. Oops! I'll just go hide over here and pretend that didn't happen.

I miss having a char who could kill people in the middle of town and no one even blinked. When everything had to be learned in game. "What do you mean there's no iron? What is hematite for anyway? Throwing star? Make one so we can see what it does. I have prisoners to test it on."
"Who let you in? That door was locked!"

"We let ourselves in. And you need a new door."

Yes, that's why I said something to your first post! I miss those chars. I wonder how they would handle the current cantr world.
