Playing in a Different Language Group

I've got some chars who might as well be speaking another language, cause it sure ain't english.

When they meet someone for whom English is a second language, the results can be ..... extraordinary. And hilarious.

I want to kick out all the people who don't use capital letters and punctuation. Those are such an important part of writing in the English language, can it really be claimed they're using it without them? Banish them all to a new spawning location on a far away island somewhere, I say.

....actually I hope at least one town develops a unique language based on their phones autocorrecting to bizarre random words. Newspawns will be known variously as medians, bedpans, and Nelson's.

My phone learns words I type and sentences I type commonly. So providing I don't spell things wrong there's a lot of cantr-specific and multiple-language specific phrases my phone can pretty much run its own mouth on.

I struggle to play my chars in English and I have to say that the players of this language group have always been nice and extremely patient with every spelling mistake and wrong gender pronouns and probably weird sentences I've writen. I'd like to say thank you to all of them, and sincerely I think Cantr is a wonderful tool to improve your skills at another language. Still, I have a long way ahead, specially when it comes to colloquial expressions and phrasal verbs (those awful things you English invented to confuse us! ). Sometimes I read stuff from chars I absolutely admire but I can't get the joke properly and it's like arggggh! Wordreference helps, many times, but not always. Worst part is when some chars talk in a pirate style or so, that's why I probably could never join a crew in English. But time to time!
Anyway, Undine, good luck with your char. And if you have any doubt with Spanish grammar, maybe I can lend a hand, just pm!

I've always wondered how people learning English even manage on the internet, where 70% of the time stuff is misspelled or in text speak or otherwise mangled grammatically. Can't exactly look up words in a dictionary when they don't exist...

And maybe I'll take you up on that Spanish language advice sometime. I've been trying to learn a little bit the biggest issue I have is that the stuff a program will teach is nothing at all like how people here actually speak it...

I spawned a character in my second language this time around, and thus far it's going better than I expected ^_^ In terms of what my character says and emotes I don't trust Google Translate for anything more than individual words (and to check for typos, since it fails to translate them and I can spot them as a result), dictionary-style. I've noticed many of the emotes I see are either from the int emotes page or (bizarrely given the languages present) in English.

I've worked around a couple of typos easily enough so far, but I can't imagine playing with a character with a typed accent would be very easy for me

edit: also, rather tangentially related on the topic of languages encountered in-game, it looks like the Duolingo English-> Polish course will be finished in the next month or so. That would have been useful way back when I had multiple characters in semi-frequent contact with Polish characters.
