Ok, just trying to understand a few things.
Projects.
So, if the wiki says an item takes a 1 day to complete. Does that assume the person has a certain amount of skill? In another thread I was told if you an expert, you will go faster? So at every tick do you just get more done, so you'll be done faster? Also does the "Time required" field in the project info section reflect the real amount of time it'll take?
How about if more than one person does a task. I assume it goes even faster and possibly super fast if to experts do it?
Traveling
So how does it work? Can you cross people on the road? How about if you are walking and they are riding in a vehicle or mount of some kind, or going different ways?
Sorry for all the questions. Usually I'm not a numbers gal, but I've been very curious about the inner workings of the game!
Also bonus question. I'd love to join the resources department. I just starting playing, though. Could I still be useful or should I wait a bit to get more game experience. Thanks!!
(edited because I type faster than I think and I don't proofread, lol)

Re: How stuff works?
Did you see the responses to your other thread?
1. The project time is at "efficient" skill. Experts will do it much faster. Awkwards will do it much slower. Tools can speed up certain projects, too. Each person contributes individually, so two efficient persons will do a 1-day project in 0.5 day. So yes, more people is always better but it's preferred to do something you're at least efficient at.
2. You can bump into people on the road, yes, and travel together. It's rare that you randomly see people on the road though.
3. RD (resources department) does need more members. Currently it's a bit empty. Scroll down on the character page and click "Click here if you are interested in joining the Cantr II staff!". Once you get the application, send it to Greek on the forum.

The time listed for projects is all for the average amount of time, as in for someone with efficient skill. It also doesn't factor in the bonuses you might receive for using better tools. And Cantrian time is a little tricky - a day is the same as a real life day. But in Cantr when people say an hour they always mean a Cantrian hour, as in three real life ones. So yes, all time listed for projects refers to real life time. Even though in reality it only matters if you're working on a project when the project 'tick' is being processed. So in between that time you've got almost three hours to run around doing whatever.
How about if more than one person does a task. I assume it goes even faster and possibly super fast if to experts do it?
Yes, the more people the faster it is, and even more so if they're both skilled. That's why cooperation is such a big deal in this game, doing everything on your own can take forever, and that's by design.

Roads are one of the weirdest parts of the game. Yes, you can see other people for a good distance while approaching and moving away from them. You can talk or even attack them, but only people in vehicles can pass objects back and forth.

Re: How stuff works?
If you want an idea of your characters progress, look at the percentage after 1 tick, then divide 100 by that amount to get the number of hours it will take. Then divide by 8 for the number of days if it's a bigger project.
A couple of things not mentioned yet that could cause great confusion:
Bear in mind that your characters state will affect project progress too. Also, some projects won't use any skill and therefore have a set amount of time (in which case, yes, the time stated is the true time, dependent on the character's state).

Right, good point. Characters who are tired or injured will work more slowly.
And most tasks involving locks aren't skill based. (maybe other things too but those are the first to come to mind)

Thanks for the quick replies! You guys are awesome!
I think I will apply for the resources dept. I am obsessed with crafting. I started making my own game, but I lack the talent. So this is the next best thing.
Plus, I'd rather play than admin or whatever.
Oh, in Reply to Wora, I did. I should have checked it for new replies before I posted this one. I wasn't sure if I should continue that thread, or start a new one. Sometimes I think I don't know how to forum, lol.

Good to see a new face, and hope you enjoy your time in the green. Just remember it's very much a patience game, and the learning curve isn't steep, but loooong, to know what you're doing, mechanics wise, and how to fit that in, roleplay wise.

Yes, learning how to pace yourself is a big part of it. Those project ticks aren't going to go any faster no matter how much you yell at them to, and at the same time the RP side of things can be almost overwhelmingly rapid and busy at times. It can take time, finding a middle ground that works for you.
Getting a handle on all the basic mechanics is important though, keep experimenting in game, bringing any questions you have to the forum, or you can whisper them OOC to other players if you have to.
P.S. iavatus, I just noticed both our avs are threatening the reader with guns

Re: How stuff works?
I guess I'll come into the thread and threaten someone with a sword instead of a gun.
Personally, I find most of my characters are perfectly content with slow-paced lives, because I can't keep up with too many that are doing "interesting" things at once. Although it's kind of a change of pace when a character I thought had a quiet life winds up fighting for their life suddenly. Mostly I tend to find it fine to sit around, craft things or gather resources, and occasionally chat with whoever is around when I feel like it. There are a handful of characters that I wind up putting a disproportionate amount of real time and effort into.

Re: How stuff works?
Jacking this because I have a question and I'm not sure where to find it/where else it goes: I know that when you work on a project, if you're not an expert, the more time you spend on a specific skill (fighting, tailoring, manufacturing, etc), you very gradually get better at it. What I was wondering was, if you work on a project with someone who was better than you, do you get better slightly/at all faster until you get to their skill level, like learning from someone?

It's not programmed like that, although it has been suggested in the past.
