Is there a funny way to say archaeologist? What do they do but dig up and preserve old bones?

Think this is the right track, imho. Smart, not used in a social context, not offensive, and evocative.
"*lock breaks*Cor, this is a treasure trove Steve!"
"Huh? Gold? Gems? Iron?"
"Nuh-uh, old bone knive repairs. Circa 700!"

So, while I like skeletubbies, think paleontologists is the best choice. Pain to spell, will provoke a lot of huhs?, but should make the point, when explained.
Edit: And I did forget one important facet of paleontologists: They work on the meat on drying racks, either their own or set up by others. Whyyyyyyy?
