It would really suck if a resource train were to just arrive, and then a bad set of results comes up and everything breaks.

We're talking very small breakage chances for most items...and it only has a chance when 'in use' (I think). So if you made two axes, it would be extremely unlikely for 1 to break immediately on use, and essentially impossible for that to happen to both. Even a stone tool would have, say, not more than 5% failure chance per hour (that's probably much too high, since at that rate it would only have a 66% chance of surviving a day of use).

The estimated usage lifespan of an item would be 1/p - 1 hours, where p is the chance per hour of breaking (assuming my math is right...I don't have time to check now). So at 0.6%, an item would last a bit over a year (of continuous use) on average. That seems pretty reasonable, for bone and stone items.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure my math is wrong...I'll be back with a fix later, if no one beats me to it.

EDIT 2: Easy fix, the right answer is just 1/p uses (hours use for a tool, blows for a weapon, whatever the event that risks damage is)

What I meant is, that although the chances are somewhere around 10 to the 7187450135479 power to 1 of happening, there is still the slightest sliver of a possibility of it occuring.

And...who cares? IRL there's a chance of nearly anything happening...and if this particular incident happened, I don't really see the negative effect on the game. A little less predictability would be a good thing, I think.

Now, if they somehow put in the wrong values, so suddenly every tool anyone was using shattered, that would be a problem. In the short run, at least. In the long run even that wouldn't be so important.

For the love of Cantr, don't ever make it so resources can run out! The staff of Cantr might suddly find their computers have every virus and worm that has no cure yet in them...

What? I have connections.

It would be good if your resource-gathering crew DID turn up and have all their tools break quickly! These misfortunes do happen sometimes in RL. Plus it would make a boring task more interesting.
