Then they have to sail to another island to search for the stuff.

And all the people who own pre-change bows are now the ones packing the big guns? It's like the old school iron miners and how they had iron all over the place, but this version is string.

Who's idea was it to have an island of nekid people anyway? Well, unless you count clothing from animal goods.

You see a man in his thirties say "I am Boog of the Four Winds, The Gods desire string, do you have any?"

Err. They do have a form of string. Look for it.

(Silk cocoons are on that island.)Remove this if it is a breech.

No. String for bows is actually pretty easy to make. You just have to figure out how. There are two ways to make string. One is harder than the other but the easier one only produces a small amount of string enough for bowstring but not quite enough for making clothing or rope with.

I have a mapmaker on the island, making a visiual map (nearly done), I'll be scouring the island and ranting if I find it lacking...

And he's been making the map since he spawned, not because of the bow change, so cool your CR jets.

Agar,

I will share an opinion of you that all may not like. When there are alternate resources available, I am of the opinion, that not all islands need to have every resource. In fact, I will go so far as to say that having some islands not have certain resources that others do have could really stimulate trade to a large degree.

In your case, even if your island had no string raw materials, they would still be able to manufacture other weapons of equal strength. This should be acceptable, making a compound bow or imported string very valuable, much like good caviar is very valuable in our world.

Even for clothing, if you had no hemp, silk, or cotton, you could still make wool, leather, and hide clothing, most likely.

For some resources that would be valid, but unless a lot has changed, there would be no decent weapon between bone spear, primitive bow, and such low-end junk and steel bladed weapons. nothing with 'bow' in the name except primitive bow can be made without string. This takes out both the best weapon, which might be OK, and every middle-class weapon in the game. Unless I'm missing a big one...are there any iron weapons?
